My first car was a 1980 Ford Pinto Rallye. Unfortunately, I beat the snot out of the car until I blew the motor on it with only 90K on the clock. Before that I had blown out the trans and the rear end. When I say beat the snot out of it, I MEAN IT. Well its been sitting in the folks back yard for a few years now but I got the itch to start rebuilding. I want to restore the car completely. I want a stock looking exterior and a turbo 2.3 under the hood. My biggest problem is that I don't know where to go about getting the Rallye decals. Mine are too faded to get the right colors to have some custom made so I was wondering if anyone still made them?
Next thing I'll need to find is paint codes. Although a touch off the true color doesn't bother me too much. But I thought it would be nice to be 50 and still have my first car!
Hi Mark.I have had my Rallye for about 14 years now.In all of that time i have only seen one strip kit and it was missing one of the door sections. It was on e-bay about two years ago.Mine still has the original strips, but they have been painted over.Sometime in the next year or two i will get a set made up for a re-paint.The body on mine is all original and it has a 88 turbo engine in it.Good luck on your rebuild and i hope to meet you in the future,Harley[pintoman].
The body on mine is all original as well but it will definitely need some TLC to bring it back.
A couple of these: :accident: kind of bent it up a bit but nothing too bad. Mostly just dents here and there. Im not sure how rusted the thing is after driving it in the Wisconsin Winters. It will probably require some patchwork on teh floor. I have it up on blocks right now keeping it out of the muck. Hopefully within the next year, it will be brought into the garage and start the tear down. Im going to try to make it look original on the outside except some nice mag wheels. Otherwise I want a turbo 2.3 under the hood and probably some custom interior work. I can't ever find any decent red interior parts for the car.
So what kinda price do you think it will be to get for a set of them decals? maybe I should have you make two if it isn't too much! Im buying a new house so money is tight!
Well, you could always get the paint shop to paint them on rather than use decals. It will look as good or better since decals can crack, and you wont have the decal edges which can peel later in the cars life. Just my 2c.
