Title: I almost made a terrible mistake
Post by: grgic on February 28, 2007, 11:26:31 AM
As I have had a love - Not love(hate is too strong a word for it) relationship with my pinto for the last 5 years.
I love the car, I not love the fact that I don't have the money to make the car what it should be.
anyways, I put the car for sell on an internet classifieds and a  TV production company saw the add and pic. and wanted to buy the car for a commercial. they offered me a little over half of what I was asking. I told them I couldn't let it go for that but they could use the car for the commercial. we reached a deal xx$ a day for 4 days and I promise not to sell it till XX date. the next day someone who I know who was interested in my pinto a few years ago came and looked at it(he has the time money and resources to make it what I always wanted it to be) and we reached a deal and he gave me a deposit to hold it until after xx date from the commercial.
For the next two days I was a wreck, I couldn't believe I sold my Pinto. Even my wife (a non believer) asked me why I sold it. To me a deal is a deal but it was eating me alive, I finally called the guy and asked him if I could talk him out of buying it. (had he not agreed I would have stuck to the deal). anyways thank God he understands the Illness from which I suffer. I gave his deposit back and threw in a few parts he will need for the pinto he will be getting.
The production company picked up my Pinto and are shooting today. all is good
so the moral of this story is, well I'm not sure it has one but i would rather have my pinto the way it is (for now) ugly
but solid and runs like a champ then to not have it at all.
By the way they wanted a car that looked rough and kind of menacing.
Just thought I'd share ;D

I've had this battle myself , over & over. I love my lil car, it's bulletproof, even if it looks like it drove thru Iwo Jima.

Hmmmm imagine that, a Pinto as "menacing".... Who'da thunk it

I keep doing it too, especially since they are sitting almost 2000 miles away from me.  I probably contemplate selling everything about ten times a week.

JGPinto72,
And the moral to this story is.....If you are going to almost sell your Pinto.....Make a big production out of it.
I am truely glad you came to your senses. And to suggest some reinforcement for the future drive it to your nearest Pinto meet this year.

Joe, I got rid of my last Pinto and Bobcat almost 13 years ago, missed em' ever since. Even bought a couple mustang II's (cause I couldn't find a Pinto) and it just wasn't the same. Now that I have a few Pinto's to play with "life" feels a little better. Despite the frustration you may feel with your little Pinto I can tell ya this though... It's your car, love it for what it is and not for what it could be. It doesn't have to be shiny, it just has to be yours  ;D
