Title: dual exhaust
Post by: james_okeefe on February 21, 2007, 10:08:12 AM
:yinyan:I'm currently getting dual exhaust on my 77 cruzer wagon installed, but to do it right  the muffler guy suggests I change the gas tank, which is not centered in the back. I'd appreciate any input into this question. I put a 302 in it and want it to sound just right. Thanks

Man the old exhaust issue...

Things in the back are tight. the size of the pipe placement of the mufflers and the exit points are all part of the problem.
I never got anything bigger than 2 inch pipe over the rearend as duals. If you look at the Mustang II duals you can copy those but they exit out the passinger side rear. another thin to do is to wrap them over the rear next to the fenderwells and exit out behind the tire kinda like the old Firebird/Smokey and the Bandit cars.
I had to bump mine before the rearend due to space and on a hard launch the mufflers touch the ground.
I hope you have a understanding and cool muffler man. Other wise your not going to get many options.

i will be doing a duel exaust set up too. my floor will be getting cut out due to rust issues. i have been debating on relocating the tirewell and gas take to make room for the exaust. id like to do a feul cell but id rather make it look stock. i was thinking about pounding the inner spare tire well, to make room for the right rear exaust. i still havent figured out the left side. im looking to have mine come out the back like an early model 1965ish mustang.

I figured the same thing. Run one pipe like regular to the passenger rear and do the same on the left...Ha!!!! No dice on the drivers side. No one realizes how little room is under a Pinto till they try to run an decent exhaust for a v-8. You can see what I did at ThunderPinto gets an exhaust.
