I removed the front dash speaker and mount from a 1980 Pinto and the speaker is 5x7.
looks like it will mount right up in my 73... so I go looking online and find a seller on ebay for the dual voice coil speakers and they want to sell me a speaker that is 4x10 for the 73 thru 78 Pinto...
Question... do the 73 thru 78 Pinto's use a 5x7 or do they use a 4x10 speaker in the dash???
They use the same front speaker bracket 71-80 so they must all be 5X7.
Bill, is that "the parts man" speaking and you can confirm that they are all the same 71 thru 80... just want to be sure when I tell the Ebay seller what he is offering is the wrong size and part.
Dash speaker bracket part# D1FZ18963A is listed to fit 71-80 in the Ford Parts Catalog.
Thanks ! helpful info... I didn't have the bracket handy today but looked at the 73 and I see no reason to believe it won't fit as it should. Now I can have a front speaker without cutting holes in anything ;D
Back in the mid-eighties, I had a 1982 Grand Prix LJ. This is another on of those cars I wish I still had. This car had an almost vertical rear window, and the distance between back shelf (between the top of the seatback and the rear window) was very narrow. It came with 4 " by 10" rear speakers, as there was no room for the fatter ones.
I had a car radio place install an aftermarket Blaupunkt stereo (in the glove box, of course - you all know how I crave the original look). They had a special adaptor to mount 5" by 7" speakers in the trunk. It was some kind of plastic wedge that had the 4" by 10" on top and 5" by 7" on the bottom. I don't know if you can still buy these, but check out car stereo shops.
