I removed the winshield from my donar car, which is a 78. I am planning on installing it into my car , which is a 79. The 78 was installed with a rubber seal similar to the rear and quarter glass, but the 79 was installed with the glue in urathane type. I didn't measure the winshields to be sure of a size difference, but I have been told the older style is a tad smaller.
Questions: Will this fit? Can I use the urathane glue in process, or will I have to buy a rubber winshield seal?
Help!! Can anyone help me?
I hope this helps... according to Pintony...

Actually the 79-80 glass is bigger.
You can install any windshield into any Pinto IF you use the correct method of installation.
1971-78 MUST be set using the rubber seal and the 79-80 MUST be installed with the Caulk-Strip.

So there's no way that the 78 glass can be intalled into the 79 without the gasket??
Where can I find the gasket? Does AutoKrafters still have them?
Thanks for the help.
That's how I understood what Pintony said. If you want to use a 78 glass in 79 you will need the gasket and possibly ? windshield clips ? I know my 73 uses clips... not sure about 79 and 80's
Autokrafters should have them in stock now... I got mine, give em' a call

you can get windshield gaskets/seal for the 71-78 models at http://www.autokrafters.com/ but you will have to call ( 1-800-228-7346 ) as they do not list all the Pinto stuff on the web site. I have bought most of the door/windows/hatch seals for my project from them.
They are out of the windshield gaskets right now (1/11/2007) but I just ordered 1 today and 10-14 day backorder and it should be shipped.
Exellent. Thanks.
The windshield in one of my '77s is glued in.

So that would mean the glass is from a 79-80 (i think) If i took my 72 to a glass shop and they put in a 79-80 glass then it would be glued in right ???
I think my head hurts
The sheetmetal itself around the window is the same, but the glass is different with relation to the gasket. The glass has to have the appropriate gasket, i.e., narrow window/rubber gasket or wide window/glue in. Additionally on the 79-80 (glue in windshield) there is a plastic trim piece that goes around the inside of the window that makes it look as if it has a regular gasket. I am not 100% sure if the exterior moulding is different, but I don't think so since I believe they clip on to the sheetmetal like my Mustang II and don't wedge into the gasket like my F100.
To sum it all up, your 72 can use a 79 up (wide) window, but it will need to be glued in, and if you want it to look clean I would recommend seeing if any of the guys on here have that plastic interior trim piece, and you may or may not need different exterior trim.
Thanks
the outside trim on my 72 is held on with clips

It was in the car that way when I got it. I could not tell you if it is a early or late windsheild, but the car had the rubber gasket on it from the factory.
