Title: 78 Pinto found in field.
Post by: 78orange on February 09, 2007, 02:51:45 PM
I've found an orange 78 Pinto hatchback sitting out in a field.  The paint and interior look really great.  I was told the car was running when parked about 3 years ago.  It has a 2.3 4-cylinder engine I think with automatic transmission.  I've always liked the old Fords and hope to save this one, but have never had a Pinto.  I'd welcome any suggestions to help me get this little guy going.  Thanks.

Congrats.

Look around on this board, you can find lots of info.

Take your time, and look it over before diving into it (like, don't spend a grand on re-doing a good running motor only to find out the tranny is shot....).

Make sure you don't cause more problems: Before starting check to see if it has oil, if it runs and drives be sure the brakes work WELL before you take it around the block...

Someone might have parked it there due to a defect or problem, do your best to find out.

Bill

I agree with 77TurboPinto,
Get all the bugs out of it...I mean literally...get it vacuumed out. Spray all the hinges with lubricant then spray all of the front end parts like the bushings and boots. It takes a while to bring a Pinto back from hibrenation. Just go one step at a time and you will be fine. Don't hesitate to ask any questions. Also, write down the vin number and run it though the decoder here so you can see what you have. Are you going to keep it??  Pictures are good. Gosh When I first saw this topic I thought...Whats he doing there?
