i have an 8" with 4.11 gears and a spool left over from when i raced mini stocks and now i am building a street pinto and i was thinking of putting it in. I am going to be putting some pretty big meats on the back of the car and i am worried about how it will turn especially in the rain. The lockers for the 8" are a little more than i want to spend but i will if i have to. I really want to stay away from the limited slip too. Also will the brake shields, drums, everthing from the outer edge of the axle fit off of my 7.5?
I wouldnt recommend running a full lock on a street car. Rain wouldnt be that bad but turning on dry asphalt you would be asking to break an axel. If it doesnt break it will hop so bad turning in a parking spot that it will drive you nuts.
All my stock rear brake parts, including the shields, bolted right up to my 8inch. And Blacksheep is right, I've used a spool on the street and just a water puddle was enough to send you into a spin around a corner especially when the trans went into second gear.
thanks guys!
I've actually used a mini spool on the street with good success. ( disclaimer ) never in the rain or when wet.
The under 5 mph turning is a bear ( read chirp,chirp, chirp ) and you can almost forget trying to push it and turn the steering wheel. :)
"....you can almost forget trying to push it and turn the steering wheel...."
;) Does that mean that ALL spools are bad? ;) Or only those who are strong as an ox should push them ? ;) Or that if you are going to turn corners that you shouldn't have one? ;)
OMG I'm being soooo negative!!! ;) ;) ;) ;) :peace:
;D :) ::) :-\ :swirl: :surprised:
I have been running an 8" with a spool and 4.62 gears in my Pinto for a year and a half now. I'm also running a T5 and 28 X 11.5 X 15 MT ET Streets..I love it and wouldn't change for anything.
