The 8" rear only came with v6 cars, correct?
Does anyone know of any limited slip units that could possibly work with the 6-3/4" rear? I am not looking for extra power handling, I just need limited slip.
If you are wondering, this is to comply with SCCA improved touring rules :)

The best I can tell you is no. I have never had a "stock" one, but I have been told AND seen evidence (photo of a door sticker of a 1980 with a "w" trans. code as well as the rear code for an 8" that I can't remember) that some sedans, H/B's, and wagons with the 2.3 could have had an 8" all the way through 1980.
There might be a L/S or locker out there for a 6.75 (they are sooooo weak), but I have never looked into it, sorry. There is much more out there for the 8" including L/S.
I wish you the best with your racing.

The 8" that I got out of a Pinto about 7-8 years ago was out of a 79-80 wagon. It had a 2.3 and a C4. It is the same car I got the bellhousing out of. I just wished I had gotten the entire trans out of that car. The car didn't have very many miles on it, but had been hit in the driver's side door. Got the rearend for 75 bucks, and the bell for 20.
I HAD 1975 WAGON ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO WITH A 2.3 AND A 3.40 LIMITED
SLIP. I ALWAYS ASSUMED WHOEVER ORDERED IT COULD ONLY GET THE POSI
IN A 8 IN. HOUSING. PARTED IT OUT 10 YEARS AGO, AND THE PEG WENT IN
A MAVERICK HOUSING FOR A STREET ROD.

I was at the salvage yard a few weeks ago and saw an 8" in a Bobcat wagon. It had the 3.40 gears but not the posi.
thanks guys.
i would settle for an open 8" at this point, you can buy parts for it at least. i cant find any around here!
Here's a follow on to the same question. Did any of the 6 cyl vehicles come with anything other than an 8". There is a '78 Pinto advertised here in my home town with a 6 cyl. and a C4. The owner doesn't know what rear end is in it. The thing is buried in snow so the owner can't look up the VIN or get under it yet. Once we get enough melt I wanna go poke my head under it and may buy it just for the rear end. If the body is in better shape (like the guy says it is) than my current '80 model project car, I'll make it the new project car.
Thanks

YES YES YES and again YES!!!! 8" rear end was an option. I have a copy of the spec sheet from Ford and it says so. I got it from the public libary in Detroit . Years ago they would fax it to you but that has stoped. Now you must have a libary card to get a copy. I'll see if I can find mine and post it.
