Recently got my engine swap installed, when I fired up the engine (302) there was a grinding noise coming from inside the bellhousing, I believe, just as the engine starts. It also makes the noise when shifting into reverse, but goes away with more rpm. It almost sounds like the starter holding onto the flywheel. The tranny (C4) shifts into gear just fine. Any ideas?
Yeah, My car had that noise too. At first I thought that the flywheel/ bellhousing was not clearanced correctly but I got use to it and never had a probblem. Dont know if yours is the same sound but it might be.
So did the noise go away? I'm hoping what ever it is will wear in. Really don't want to pull the engine again.
I dont think the noise ever really ( went away ) I just got use to it. I never had a probblem and I thought I would. I dont know if your issue is the same. I know if the bellhousing is not installed exactly correct that other people have had issues ( what they were I dont exactly know). Drive it around close to home at first untill you get comfortable with what you hear.
