Title: Unrestored original '74 on eBay
Post by: oldcarpierre on January 21, 2007, 06:19:34 PM
Hey Dave,
Looks like this one and Geraldine are sisters.  Are you bidding this one up also?

Here is the link.  You will need to copy it and paste in you browser's address bar.

Remember when you guys said I was dreaming 18 months ago before I found mine?

BTW, can someone teach me how to make this a live link instead?  I have not been able to figure it out.

oldcarpaierre,
your link worked , all i had to do was click on it. The car started with a reserve  that must have been $5000 , as that is where the bidding is at now. the car is not tofar from my sister  but i do not have the resorces to buy it at this time.

Shoot!  That's like an hour and a half away from here.  Nice car.  I'd give them cash in hand if they'd take it, and if I had it.

It may not be restored, but there is somethin fishy about it...  Look at the pic that shows the transmission.  on the drivers frame rail, you can clearly see where someone forgot to spray-paint a spot that the lift covered, and it looks rusty.   Makes you wonder if he's trying to cover up a rust-bucket...

If the car was truly kept inside, in a showroom there would be little or no rust. But I wonder who painted the underside, the dealer to make the underside more showy for display?

Oh yeah the chassis has been painted. look at the run on the muffler. Doesn't that destroy the "unrestored" status of the car? It at least kills the "all original" status.

Pierre,

Thanks for thinking about me, and yes, I told my wife the same thing...there's Geraldine's sister!

And when the guy added the underside shots, I thought the same thing, why the paint? I thought maybe it was undercoat from the day, and it may be, but looks like some of you saw the same thing I did. That makes me feel better. Not to make it something it isn't, but if it has been painted, they ought to tell you that.

I will be excited to see what it goes for. And no, Mama says my corral is full, so not bidding. All of us ought to be interested in what this car sells for. The more it goes for, the better our car value is. I am seeing appreciation for good original cars.

My new green sedan, Jade, the 400 mile car, supposedly sat in a heated garage for 26 years. Exposed untreated metal has surface rust on it. I wish it didn't, but it appears that the environment was not temperature and humidity controlled.

Here in Tulsa, there was a donated 1957 Plymouth buried in what they are calling a time capsule to be unearthed in 50 years, that is this June. I am real excited to see what this car looks like, being underground, sitting on rails, off of the tires, wrapped in the best plastic they had in the day.

Hope someone reading this picks up the car on eBay!

Dave

I had not noticed the paint.  I did notice however that the car had not been in for recall campaign 293.  There is no safety shield between the tank and the differential.

Still a very nice car.

By the way, here is what a true unrestored underbody should look like.

Well I guess $5300 is what it was worth to someone.  Did it go to anyone here?
