Title: Anyone know how much backspacing you can go with on a stock Pinto?
Post by: ahawes on January 19, 2007, 02:49:11 PM
I want to buy some new wheels and tires soon. The pinto is stock height. The stock rims look like there is at leaast 2-3 inches of backspacing with another 2-3 inches to go before they would rub the fender well. Anyone know if this is about right? If anyone even knows the backspacing on thei aftermarket rims that would help. The rims I am wanting to get have 4 inches of backspace and I would guess they would fit but don't want to find out the hard way. Thanks to anyone who can provide some information.

My turbo car has 14" X 6" rims with 4" backspacing on the rear, and 14" X 5.5" with 3.5" of backspacing on the front; no issues.

The tire size will have a lot to do with it too.

on my '71 back in '71 , i had some 13" x 7" steel rims made using the stock centers, that had a 4" back spacing and they didn't cause any problem at all.  keep in mind that the tires i was using were some small 185/70-13 radials.  a larger diameter wheel tire comination will require a little bit more attention to fit..  pintos have a pretty big wheel house at both front and rear.

I am running the Aero 13x6 mini-stock wheels on my 73 wagon and they have 3" backspacing running
175/70-13 tires and they dont rub in the least ill try to attach a front veiw pic to this. Best pic I had was angled so I hope this helps. You can see I have the rear loaded down with tools and it doesnt rub at all.

I am going to try and go for some 15"s with some really low pro tires so I am hoping it will work out. I will try and keep everyone updated on this thread for anyone who may have a similar query in the future.
