Title: 1/4 glass trim removal

Does anyone know if I remove the alluminum trim from around the 1/4 glass, will it stay in fine?

I know the slit will be in the rubber, but that doesn't bother me, not very noticable. I took the trim off the door frame, and it doesn't match up with the 1/4 glass trim.

The ones on my bright red 78 were painted body color.

My 72 does not have any on it(bought it that way) and they stay in fine.
if you remove them would you want to sell them?
