How much ponyies can you get out of a n/a 2.3 i know mine back in the day was prety quick and it had a intake, 4bbl carb(way over carbed) header exhaust and cam all i got out of dirt track catalogue my dad gave me when he gave me the car but no one had a dyno back in those days so i had no idea what power it was putting but it would do a one wheel tire smoke show pretty easy,
Anyway i want to bulid a N/a 2.3 but cant get any numbers it seems like everyone turbos these things which i might di but really dont want to mess with when i finally find the right car cause knowing me i will drive it for 2 weeks and have it torn down for 6 months buliding a turbo engine. I want some drive time before getting into all that.
so has anyone got any numbers on a n/a 2.3
Well, you can get anywhere from 120 to 315 out of an N/A 2.3 engine, some of the factor is how much you are willing to spend. Other factors are streetability etc. What were your ideas?
well i was thinking bored stroked maybe, full head job cam igniton intake (not sure on fule system carb or injection) header pretty much the ususal higher comp pistons for sure but all i was looking for was something in the 225 to 250 range with a tolernace to maybe a 75 or 100 shot if i decided to do that in the future
I think that is slightly past the "street-able" range for a N/A, and is well into the "modifications needed" even for turbo engines.
Bill
Well the engine bulding part isnt problem as for as N/A goes but i dont have much with exprience with turbo charged cars, I wasnt sure what kind of HP these things could live with happily, i know there not like modren 4cyl are but i kind of expected them to be tougher with the iron blocks and so on. there are few 4cyl cars out today that can run 250 hp al be it modified and still be streetable i wasnt sure if this possible with a old 2.3 or not.
So turbo is about the only way to go. well then i guess i will just go ahead and make the plans to go that route.
