Yes that is a bummer. It must have heated really bad to get oil in the radiator. What happened?

HEY HH,
I guess I blew another heater core???
Pass side floor full of antifreeze.. AGAIN
SO First I have to pull the dash and FIX that, before I can try to diagnose the oil in the water...

Ouch.. I feel the pain.

Say.. doesn't oil in the anti-freeze usually mean head gasket?

Hey Cookieboy,
If I am LUCKY it is just head gasket.   >:( - :)
If I am 3000.00 unluckey it is the cylinder head.... :'(

Sounds like the head gasket was blowing compression & oil in the cooling system faster than the radiator cap could vent it off.    Hence your blown heater core.

How often do you retorque your heads?

Hello Group,
OK I have my dash completely dis-mantled only to discover that a 99cent part may have killed my engine.
The coolant was leaking from a hose clamp. Possibally tightend too much???
I replaced the clamp... No more leak???

I will try to clean the rad out and flush the engine tomorrow.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
The engine probally needs to come out anyway as I'm pretty sure at this time that the oil gallery plug at the back of the block is leaking.

Hey Brad,
My plan is to pull the engine and presurize the system with a drill and dummy dist. shaft while on the engine stand.
I figure I will find it.
I think it is the first time the shop I use knocked that little ball out??
I usually just rod it out with those gallery brushes.
My plan is to have my Pinto sit in PintoPowers driveway W/O cardboard UNDERNEATH.. ;D

You might think about using a threaded cap.........???

Hello Group,
The radiator flush is complete...
I drove my Pinto aprox. 5 miles and am waiting for it to cool off.
It never got above 180deg and was 170 most of the drive...
I put 9pounds of boost to it 2 times from 55mph to a Highly illegal speed.
If the boost does not make it leak maybe the high rpm will???
I will let you know...
From Pintony

P.S. I NEVER thought I would be driving this Pinto on dec.31st ;D
55deg. and partly cloudy... :wow:

Pintony,
sounds like you are fortunate. I almost got my bobcat out as well as the weather is unseasonably warm.

The Hood is off and already started the dis-assembly.
Maybe the moderator should move this to the Your Projects section????

Here is what my engine bay looks like tonight.
I have not found any cracks YET???
I thiught I found 1 in the head but it is just a tool mark...

I will go ahead and pull the block and have everything tested to be sure...

Here I am checking the straightness of the head...
Using a straight edge and a feeler gauge "After Scraping any gasket residue"
I find that a .004 feeler gauge will slip easly under the straight edge.
Time for head teardown and off for a skim surfacing.
I will also check the free-ness of the cam as the warp may have put it in a bind.
Before any work gets done I will have the head magni-fluxed and Presure tested....
