Just picked up a 73 runabout, not running at this time. Looks like the last time it was registered was in 1986. I need to know if a complete steering colum from a 78 will swap in with no problems.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert
The electical part that connects the column to the wiring harness is different. I am not sure if you can swap out the switch that is on top of the steering column. I have not tried it, but I know the switch on the 73 has to be set just right to work so be careful if you take it off your existing column. What is wrong with your existing column? Depending on what is wrong, you may have to piece them both together? Good luck!
No.
Well the key is stuck in the ingnition, the ignition rotates really stiff, the ingnition key release lever doesnt want to move much or release the swith and on top of the colum where the instrument cluster and the colum meet there is a metal rod with a loop sticking out and you can push/pull it in and out. The 2.0 is not running right now, the car has been sitting since 1986 and I'm doing a bunch of pre start maitnence and clean up before I try to get it running. But before I put a battery in it I would like to find out whats up with the ignition, or find another complete colum to swap in.
Thanks,
Robert
Hi. Hey, you might want to see if earthquake still has the column in his 73 parts car.
