Title: Sway bars for a 73 ????
Post by: Starliner on December 27, 2006, 12:00:45 PM
My 73 1600 Pinto has NO sway bars!   I don't see any mounting points for sway bars either.  It is sprung fairly stiff and actually handles well.   However, since I added the taller rear tires and ride height is higher I get more body lean.       I love freeway ramps!

What are your recommendations for adding front & rear sway bars?   Aftermarket?  What brand?  How do they attach since I have no existing attachment points?

This is just a driver and not an autocross car!   However I do like cruising through the twisties.

Here are a couple companies that still sell new front and rear sway bars for Pintos (there probably are others):

The mounting brackets usually come with the new bars.  I tried all of the Addco bars on my 71 Pinto and they all work well.  The front bar that crosses in front of the engine hangs down low enough to protect the oil pan some what from road hazards.  I suspect the later Pinto sway bars could be retrofitted to the early Pinto's, but I have not tried it.

Racer Walsh also sells 1.5" lowering blocks for the rear that may get Pinto level again with those larger rear tires.  Have fun in the twisties.

Try the 72-073 Pinto wagon,
They have a small front bar good for the street.

Earthquake,
Thanks for the offer.   Unfortunately I have been working in China too much lately and no time for my projects.
I haven't started the Pinto in 6 months.   I am loosing my driving skills from just riding in taxis!
