Not too many 1600s on the site. But here is a picture of an electric fan installation that came out like a factory installation and at low cost.
I purchased a NOS 91-94 Tempo 2.3 electric fan on Ebay for $20.00 I then took two pieces of aluminum channel and attached them to my radiator using the same mounting locations as the shroud. (actually I used an old aluminum shower door channel) The only difference is I used stainless steel fasteners. I then cut the large Tempo fan shroud to fit. Then I fastened the shroud to the aluminum channel. (I did this to my new radiator off the car, it was very easy)
I then added a fusable link to the positice battery post and wired it to a continuous duty relay. Then I used a 40 AMP circuit breaker like they use on 18 wheelers.
For now I just added a switch in the interior to cycle the relay for the fan. I am waiting on a thermostat housing where I will modify it to add a VW/Audi fan switch. I will show this later. For now, in the cool weather I never need to turn on the fan. FUEL SAVINGS & POWER! Well, a little power.
Also note the radiator overflow bottle. The black spray in the engine compartment is the fresh Ziebart undercoating. (doesn't look good, but just a driver)
I have about 1 inch between the fan and the water pump. For a 2000 engine you may not have enough room to do this installation with the Tempo fan.
Hey Starliner,
The electric fan looks great!
Your engine really looks CLEAN!!!
I power-washed my engine bay when I first got my 1600 Pinto and it knocked most of the stickers off.
I'm kinda bummed about it.
