On my 74 wagon there are 2 fuel lines running fron the gas tank, it had a 2.3 in it but I put a 2.0 out of a 71. My question is the carb out of the 2.0 only takes 1 line. I have blocked the other smaller line off. Is that the correct thing to do ?? My car runs great when it is cold but as soon as it warms up it has no power to even get up a slight upgrade to get out of the driveway.
I have put on a rebuilt dist., the compression is running at 130 on all cylinders, no vacume leaks, the decel valve has a new diaphram in it. new coil, plugs and wires, cap and rotar, new clutch and throw-out berring.
I'm going nuts trying to figgure this one out. Any suggestions
I know its kinda simple but make sure the choke isnt being sucked shut ....Just had that problem with my falcon... Holley webber was starting and warming up nice...but it was puking afterwards...
Best of luck
Frank
Hello Farmboy,
Unplug the line!!! That is where the fuel tank gets it's air.
I did that once and it smashed my tank like a pancake.
From Pintony
All my stock 2.3's have 3 lines to the tank.
One fuel feed, one fuel return, and one vent.
Two of the lines come out of the sending unit in the lower front of the tank.
The vent is on the top of the tank and the line for it runs to the char. can. in the left front of the car.

Pintony is right, it is the vent line and normally hooked up to a charcoal canister. If nothing else just unplug it even if you dont hook it to anything. If you are worried about dust or dirt stick an inline fuel filter in the end of it.
Alright guys, something new to try, Frank, I know its not the choke closeing, but thanks for the input.
You guys are the best
there are 3 lines going to the gas tank, 2 to the carb and 1 to the charcoal canaster. The vent line was still hooked up. The fuel pump is putting out 5+ pounds of pressure and not bleeding back. I took off the other fuel line that I had blocked off and the same as before, it ran great till it got warm then ran really bad with no power. I guess the next step is to buy a rebuilt carb. It will cost the same as having a guy dip the old one and rebuilding it as to have one shipped to my NAPA dealer.
Any more suggestion would be appreacted, My wife aint getting any happier but after 28 years of marrige, Oh Well ;D
Hey Farmboy,
I`m a little confused...the two fuel line`s should go to the fuel pump...not the carb...one supply... one return line...and the vent to the canister
73pintogeek, your right, 2 lines to the fuel pump, most of the time my mind goes alot faster than my hunt and peck typing abilities
Hey farmboy,
You say you took the 2.3 out and installed a 2.0??
There is no provision on a 2.0 Fuel Pump for 2 lines..
What did you have to do to make the 2.0 work??
Motor mounts?
From Pintony
Pintony, I just took a rubber hose shoved a bolt in and sealed off the smaller of the 2 fuel lines, the other fuel line goes to the fuel pump.
Motor mounts, I cut them out of a donor car that the 2.0 came out of, set the motor in lined every thing up, and welded them in.
