Title: Front Subframe Swap 73 Pinto 76 MII
Post by: douglasskemp on December 10, 2006, 02:50:04 PM
Hi.  Has anyone tried swapping out a later frontend in to an early pinto?  I just picked up a 73 sedan, and have been reading up on others here that have had a lot of issues rebuilding the 73 frontend due to lack of parts availability.  I have a 76 Mustang II Ghia that I am parting, and since I am going to strip the car, I might as well save the front end out of it.  Just wondering if I should take just the crossmember and weld it in, or if I need the entire subframe.  Do the radius rods mount in the same location?  Also, has anybody tried just swapping the frontend components?  Are the mounting points different at all?  I am trying to keep this low-buck, so aftermarket is out of the question.  Thanks for all the help from everybody.

Hello Doug,
The early Pinto front suspension parts are not that hard to find.
Take a close inspection first to see what parts are bad.
I did the swap on my first 73 Pinto to a late cross member about 15 years ago.
I wouldnt do it again!!!!!
I am working on a swap to use the flaming river 71-72 rack on a Pinto.
The only other part that might be hard to find is lower ball joints.
If you 73 rack is in good condition?, I would leave as is.
