I love taking a quick corner while trying to blip a good downshift. (I just pretend my 1.6 is a sports car!) My 1973 stock steering wheel is just too large in diameter to make a good one handed sharp turn. It is even too large for straight ahead freeway cruising. The steering effort is not hard for NO power steering. The car has very good road feel.
So what smaller diameter steering wheels (black) are available as a direct bolt on ???? Is the Mustang II GT steering wheel a direct fit? Is it smaller in diameter? Any other steering wheels to look for? Aftermarket???
I appreciate all your opinions before I go Ebay hunting for a used steering wheel or buy a new aftermarket unit.
I think the stock wheels are 16 inch diameter in size. The GT or sport wheel you are referring to is a 15 inch diameter wheel. I think that is it for stock ford wheels. My 73 parts car had a Grant wheel that is smaller, a little over 13 inches. I didn't much care for the style but it seemed comfortable for the little I drove the car before it was taken apart. Grant has many styles that are adaptable to many different vehicles. I am sure they have a web site that will list them. Good luck!
