Title: V8 swap ignition module
Post by: hoots on February 18, 2004, 08:46:01 PM
Ok you swappers, what ignition module did you use. I left the original one in and do have spark but it won't fire. Any pointers would be appreciated.

mine ran on the original v-6 one.  Maybe yours is just getting weak.  try to get a new one.  they are not too expensive.  Get one from a pick up truck.

Ford ignition modules (those of the 4" sq variety made of aluminum) arethe same for 4cyl, V-6, I-6, and V-8 applications. The way to identify the module you need for your application is to look at the plastic grommet on the side of the module (where the harness comes out) in the car/truck that your engine came from. Most are blue. If the donor car's module matchs the stock one in your car, then getting anew module would be appropriate. I can't recall what all the color possibilities where, but Iam sure there was a white, brown, blue, and I believe yellow. Hopefully the donor car is still accesable so you can check it's module. If not, go the your local parts store and have them look one up for the donor car and check the grommet color.  ;D

I had the same problem with mine, tried 2 different stock modules,it would run about a week then quit working,so I switched over to a MSD-6AL and it solved the problem,it's been running on that for 4 years now.
