Title: 73 Pinto Runabout Project
Post by: Cookieboystoys on November 28, 2006, 07:57:20 PM
Well.... It's Started!!

My Pinto ( http://www.fordpinto.com/smf/index.php?topic=5249.0 ) has turned into My Project. I have most of the parts I wanted, rest are on the way and only a few small items to look for. I dropped the Pinto off at the body/auto shop last night. I stopped in to give him the deposit and to find out when he planned on starting and found.... The motor was pulled and head was sent off to be checked. It's Started!! Yippy!!

Here's the Plan...

1) all new metal in the rear (2 NOS quarters, Valance, NOS hatch and a NOS lower back panel around the taillights)

2) all body work that needs doing will be done and fresh paint... gonna get rid of any rust that is found!

3) underside will be cleaned up and painted/undercoated

4) engine compartment cleaned up and painted.

5) engine rebuilt and lots-o-new parts and paint

6) front end will also receive lots-o-new parts

7) clutch parts replaced w/new

8) interior will all be fresh and painted with recoverd seats

This should be "sweet" when done.... I can't wait

Here's a couple pics of his progress for now and I will update as I get new pics of the progress as it moves along.

Hey Brian,
It is NOT everyday that you see a transparent dist cap for a Pinto 2.0.
I do not think I have ever had an Alumunum water pump for the 2.0 either???

SOME ADVICE!!!
I do not know how much you gave that shop for a deposit???
BUT Do not give 1 more dime untill the car is finished.
I will never UP anything to a bodyshop again.

Thanks Brad....

Tony, I got the distributor off ebay... ain't it cool  8) and I noticed the water pump looked different than the one on the motor, even commented on it to the body guy. Do you think I should have him reuse it vs. the one that was on the block I got from you?

and don't worry... this shop has been around for sometime w/a great reputation. For a project like this I asked around and this was the only place to consider. I wasn't interested in cheap... I wanted the best and he's it for this area.

If that water pump is Aluminium get the part numbers off it I would love to cross referance it....that would be great....the water pump is only as good as its internals...

Hey Joecool, long time no see... I can't wait either. So far all looks good w/engine, head was sent out and returned w/a clean bill of health. Didn't even need to be shaved. He's finishing up with another restore and will start in earnest on mine soon. Just got the last pieces need for the motor rebuild so will be bringing that to him on Monday and I should be able to get an update on the time table. First step is to get the engine compartment sand blasted and fresh paint. Then motor will go back in so it will move under it's own power again. Then body work and paint and the interior last.

I can't wait so I found another project to work on for now, more on this later and in a different post  ;D

Fcanon... I didn't forget. Just haven't been out to see the car and get the part # off that aluminium water pump yet

Hey Brian,
Unless there is a REAL need to sandblast the engine bay??
Your best bet is to spend the time to de-grease it and wet-sand the entire bay with 220 grit paper.
Using lots of dawn DWL and hot water.
You will NEVER get all that sand out...

Hey Tony, de-grease is done and he did show me a couple areas he wanted to hit w/the blaster. Didn't sound like at the time he was gonna do much blasting, just a couple small areas and some repair will be required for the battery tray.

Hey Brian,
That is the problem if it is just a small area? The sand is still everywhere.
You will be getting sand from the fresh AIR VENTS FOR THE NEXT 30 YEARS.
Unless I plan to blast the entire car I will never use sand again.
How about a wire brush and some METAL-PREP???

Hey Brian,
I have to agree with Tony on this...if nothing else use a hot pressure washer for the hard to reach spot`s...just my 2 cent`s from an ol` fart that`s been there and done it and learned the hard way...
A one up for Tony!

fine.. I'll ask him about it tomorrow, I have to drop off some parts anyhow.

and.. I'll try to get that part # for the water pump
Title: Re: 73 Pinto Runabout Project
Post by: Cookieboystoys on December 11, 2006, 09:59:34 AM
Fcanon, he couldn't find a part # on the water pump but once it is removed from the motor he will check again.

Sand Blasting - To late to ask.. weather was nice this weekend so he pulled it outside on Saturday and did it. He agrees that sand will be everywhere but unless I have a bottomless wallet I really didn't want hime to take the time to sand it all down by hand. Also said sandblasting helps to show defects that hand sanding will not... anyhow, nothing to be done about it now.

He'll be finishing the Tbird he's working on this week and then it should be time for the Pinto.

Tony, all clutch parts will be replaced as well as the master cylinder and battery tray. From the looks of it he did cover the front of the tranny as there is no sand in there I could see. I think he was in a hurry as it was almost 40 here this weekend and if he didn't do it now it would be back down to 10 below like it was in the middle of the week. He does the sand blasing outside and this time of year you don't get 40 degree days around here.

I think for thoes who don't like the idea of sandblasting... I see your point, sand is everywhere. But let's keep in mind... I'm not doing this in my back yard with unlimited time to hand sand everthing. I pay him by the hour and he has a lot of work to do.. rebuilding my motor, lot of new parts under the hood, lot of suspension and brake work, all new metal for the rear end, body work and paint entire car inside and out plus the underside of the car. Then when he's done I will need a custom exhaust, front end aligned and new tires. I still have interior work that will need to be done elsewhere, Stereo installed, windows tinted, etc, etc, etc.. There are a LOT! of dollars going into this "little" project. If I saved $$$$ and he saved a week or more in labor doing what he did... I would have given the OK to sand blast.

Hey Cookieboy,
That is what I amsaying Y was the blasting done with the battery tray installed?
Y was it done with the master cylinder in place???
Those are the worst areas to deal with when re-painting under the bonnet.
I wet sanded my Purple Pinto engine bay in under 2hrs after I welded my battery pannel in and got it smoothed with fiberglass. The 2 hrs included removal of the wiring harness and all items on the firewall and innerfenders.

I'm not sure what a wagon looks like when stripped like this but I'll tell it was shocking to see mine like this.. kinda naked..

He told me I would be surprised when I came to see it today.

Hope that it's a nice surprise instead of a nasty surprise!  :o

Anyway, I have a feeling that the lower doors, the windshield, the front half of the floor boards, and everything foward are the same in sedans and wagons. It's just that everything aft is way different.

Finished up my front speaker install yesterday. Will add to that thread when I'm back down in Omaha.

Was a good surprise.... he's working on a T-bird restore right now and only works on mine between other steps on the T-bird. He pulled the engine after priming the T-bird for example. The privious owner of the shop, who is unable to work full-time due to health reasons, still likes to help when he can and has actually been helping w/the Pinto quite a bit and cut the quarters off. I didn't expect any work done until next week sometime so it was a welcome surprise  ;D

Time for more updates... I have been out of town and with the holidays been about 2 weeks since I checked in w/the body guy. All the new metal has been instaled, carpet removed, glass removed and now time for the rebuilt motor to be installed. If I understood correctly he has some body work and prep under the hood to do before the motor gets reinstalled. Once the motor is in then final body work and paint. He's still thinking it will be finished towards the end of January then I'll get to bring it home to do the interior work. Floor looks real good with a few holes to fix from the non-stock seats that have been installed over the years and one small rust hole was found on the driver side floor... not bad but will be fixed. All in all I was impressed with how good the floor looked. So far the only bad thing that happened was during the removal of the windshield the glass cracked and broke (I'm just not having any luck with glass) but a new one has been aquired and it even has tint on the top  ;D which I wanted anyhow. I have most if not all of the interior parts here at home to cleanup, still need to order the carpet and the dash pad still needs to go to the upholstery shop for a new skin but it's all coming together nicely.

and here's a few pics I took today...

He got the origional paint code off the door... man is that one nice, bright, shiny color of red. Surprising as there is a lot of orange mixed in.

well... as some of you may know engine reinstall didn't go as planned. Moror went in, Header even fit, and motor sounded good but.... to much oil pressure. Turns out the oil pump is defective and some valve in the pump isn't working correctly. Blowing up the oil filters like balloons and according to Melling Tech Support has to be putting out 100+psi for it to do that to the oil filters so... out comes the motor, new pump on order and try again  :(

On a possitive note I stopped by the reupholster's shop tonight to drop off the dash pad and got to see my seats in the process. the previous owner had redone the rear seats (very nice work too) and gave me the matching material to have the front seats recovered to match. After finding an origional set of early Pinto hi-back buckets (Thanks Pintony) I took them in to have them recovered to match. He's even adding a little bit of lumbar support for me  ;D

Also got the mirros I ordered, they don't look exactly like origional Ford remotes but I think they will work for now. Later I will most likely have to get some good remotes.

I stopped out today to see the motor in the car... even though it will be coming back out (oil pump issues) and he hasn't painted the valve/timing/air cleaner I wanted to see the header installed. Turns out the previous owner of the header painted it w/regular white paint and once the motor started up the header paint starting burning/smoking instantly and is now brown.

It's a start... more to come...

Yahoo! the new oil pump is installed and WORKING!!! as it should. I got to hear it run (just for a little because no radiator/water yet) and OMG does it sound mean! w/just the header and no pipe... wow  :o Sounds like a race car...

He still had a bit to do with getting it all hooked up to run but it was nice to see the valve cover and timing cover painted. Lots of cleanup to do yet under the hood but back underway now that the oil pump issue has been fixed.

Hi All ,
Those aluminum water pumps for 2.0L EAO fords can be purchased from B.A.T. out in East (Florida) They are quite common on almost every Formula Ford 2000 or Ford powered S2000 SCCA road racer. They also have quite a stock of racing goodies for the same engine, but be prepared, your wallet will suffer! Then again race cars always cost money.
Best of luck on your project!

Pintosopher, Thanks for the info on the aluminum water pump... I know Fcanon was wondering about it.

Motor is now all hooked up... minor issues w/carb sucking air as well as other issues like choke but was aware of the issues before all this was started. Carb guy is going out to take a look today and we'll see what he thinks. Me... I wanna replace it, to many issues with this one.

Interesting... now that the motor has run a bit more the header seems to be turning white again ???

and... the underside of hood is painted... Oooooo.... shiney 8) gotta wear shades...

Cookieboy, what does he want to rebuild the carb., I was quoted a price of $350 to do mine, I went to napa and ordered one, picked it up yesterday and the price came to $218.00 with the core charge.
I put the new rebuilt in this morning and just got back from the test drive and all I can say is TOO COOL, the first time I have came back from a test drive and not knowing what to do next to make it better :fastcar:
Title: Re: 73 Pinto Runabout Project

I've had him rebuild/service several carbs for me (pinto, truck, mustang) and has never charged me more that $80 and that included parts/gaskets/labor. He's the only one in the area that will touch a carb (all mechanics around here will tell you to call him) and most are very happy w/his service.

If I had to pick one thing I don't like about him... he thinks everything is fixable... and sometimes I think a replacement should be recommended. He keeps telling me this carb is fine and I know it has several different issues. Had a similar situation w/the carb on the mustang and took awhile and couple attempts to get him to agree that a replacement was necessary. Mustang carb did work much better when he was done but not perfect and I like perfect.

I am curious, with all the money you are putting in your 73, why not just get the header ceramic coated?  Then you won't have to worry about the paint changing colors at all.
Title: Re: 73 Pinto Runabout Project
Post by: Cookieboystoys on January 19, 2007, 01:03:58 PM
Douglas,...

#1 Reason = Time I got the header just before he started motor rebuild and body work. No time to send it out if I wanted it installed.

Also... neither of up could tell what the coating was on it... now that it seems to be turning white again we suspect there are multiple layers of "something and it's burning off the latest coating (possible paint) that the seller put on to make it look better. When I got it there were no scuff marks on it and that did look a little suspicious for something the seller had for some time and had installed on a car (found it wouldn't fit his application = street rod/not a pinto). Best guess at this point is the latest coating will burn off and leave whatever white coating was on it before.

I may decide to pull it at some later time.. have to see what happens w/current coating and will have to be done later.

Stopped in to check the progress this morning. Second coat of primer has been sprayed and he'll be taking the blocks to it again. Looking for dips and imperfections in the body work. If all goes well the doors will be coming off for paint and he'll be doing the interior soon.

Also... got my seats today. Not to shabby, origional owners did a little better job on the rear seat than this guy did on the fronts. I'm to picky sometimes, they do look great and the lumbar support he added will be nice ;D

I'm making him redo the dash, it didn't turn out good at all. I told him that if that was what he was gonna give me as finished I was gonna rip off the material he put on and cover it w/the plastic cover I had. He agreed to try again.

more updates...

He's been working on final primer getting ready for paint, lots of little areas needed work (low and high spots) and one of the front fenders and the hood needed a bit-o-work. He got the interior painted in the brown we picked to match the seats. He also pointed out that the top of the dash should be done in black to match the dash pad. Rest of the dash is brown and once reassembled the black pieces should tie it all together.

here's a picture of the trunk area and one of the doors...

The trunk area will get one more coat of brown, I noticed a couple thin spots in the tire well. Interior of the doors is brown and will have black door panels and armrests that I got from the 80 parts car I stripped...

On a side note.... carb guy did stop out and took the carb to do a little more work on it and seal up some leaks. It is acting a lot better and will now idle but without having the exhaust on and final tuning hard to say how good it is. I've called the shop doing the exhaust to let them know they will be getting it soon. My thought is that once the body guy is done w/his part I want it to go directly to the exhaust shop before it comes home for the interior work. They'll also be doing the alignment as there are a lot of new parts in the front end.

It is looking fantastic and I enjoy watching the great progress.  Just wanted to make sure you were aware of an installation sequence.  If you are using a stock style headliner, it gets installed before the window gaskets.  The headliner wraps around the window frame with some adhesive, then the window gaskets cover this up.  This applies to the windshield, quarter windows, and the hatch opening.
Title: Re: 73 Pinto Runabout Project
Post by: Cookieboystoys on February 01, 2007, 11:13:18 AM
Jerry, thanks for the heads up... we knew that it's the way it was done at the factory. I've been trying to find someone to install the headliner and very recently we found someone who might. Since I knew it couldn't be done before the body work was complete I did ask around and was told that yes a headliner could be put in without removing the window gaskets. Better to do before hand I would guess but since it wasn't an option I couldn't worry about it. Now that we have someone who "might" be able to install it sooner than what was expected I'm kicking myself for not ordering the headliner sooner...

Body guy is waiting for me to receive the backordered windshield gasket and as soon as I receive he will stop what he is doing and come get it. He wants the windows installed so he can move on to the next step in the painting process. Unfortunately time is an issue at this point as we are behind schedule and if I ask him to wait for the headliner... well... no more cookieboy as he will beat me with big ol' stick  ;D

Final Paint Has Started !! Yippy !!

and..... I got to meet the person that will be doing the headliner and install the front carpet. The glass company who broke my origional windshield removing it dropped the ball again. The glass they ordered to replace it has major issues (they had it for 3 weeks and they didn't notice... then had the gall to suggest installing it anyhow at a discount price - idiots!) and so another has been ordered. Body guy wanted the glass in to do the paint so the headliner wasn't gonna be installed "as it should" but now since the glass company doesn't have the glass... headliner goes in first and they can wait. I have given her the headliner, carpet and all the parts necessary so when paint is done she gets to do the headliner and front carpet. I'll do the rear carpet as it is attached to the rear seat and will not be installed for some time yet.

getting closer... still much to do but soon (1-2 weeks) it will be home again  ;D

I was so lucky to finally find someone to do the headliner... thought I was gonna have to take the Pinto to the cities to find someone to do the headliner. No one does it around here and I knew I didn't wanna do it. Plus w/the goofs on the glass companies part it now gets installed as it should.. before the glass  ;D

I'll keep the pics comming...

First Peek ! the main painting is done, still lots of little stuff left to do for the reassembly but this gives an idea of the paint scheme. Can't wait until it's all finished and I can get it outside for some decent pictures. These inside pictures just don't do it justice... looks so much better in person.

no new pictures... just updated info.

Headliner is in and looks good, decided to wait and do the carpet later. I want to get the interior and dash done before it goes in and waiting for warmer weather will be an advantage during the install. Pinto is back at the body shop for the final assembly and to install the new parts for suspension and brakes.

At home I have been gathering and cleaning the parts needed to reassemble the interior and dash. Finally decided what to do about the speaker setup. I don't want to cut holes in anything for the front speaker and want to install one in the in the dash like factory. I got a stock mounting bracket out of the 1980 I stripped so now I just needed to find a speaker. I didn't want just any old speaker, new stereos are not setup for a single mono speaker, so I needed a solution. Found one... was watching the DIY network and they were restoring a 60's mustang and during the show I found my speaker. It's a dual voice coil speaker designed as a replacement for the factory setup. Speaker has hookup for right and left channel which will work much better than a standard mono speaker hooked up.

for a good description of the speaker I ordered go here ---> http://www.casmfg.com/DVC_Speakers.htm

Custom Autosound shows DVC3001 as the speaker for a Pinto in their catalog but when I called them (800-888-8637) they told me the DVC3001 is a 4x10 speaker and Pinto's use a 5x7 so I got the part # for a 5x7 (DVC3005). Custom Autosound doesn't sell direct to the public so they gave me the phone # and I ordered it from InDemand (888-668-6386) for about $52.00 shipped to me. I should receive the speaker mid-late next week and I sure hope w/the confusion over the part # and sizes it will be the right one. I'll post more info when I get the speaker.

Cookieboy, you know there are factory speaker grilles for the doors.  My 79 wagon has them.  I have a set for my 73.  All you need to do is notch the door panel and cut the speaker hole.  I believe my 79 has 6" in the front from the factory.   Just an idea to make it more comfortable and yet still somewhat original.....  Here is a picture from my car.

Thanks 78Pinto... can't wait till it's back together and I can post pics of the finished product (body, engine and suspension work) as there is a bit of a surprise when it's all done. Interior will still need to be assembled but have till spring to get that done and I'm getting excited to do that... finally I'll get to do something to the car myself.  I've been watching your progress too and can't wait to see and hear what your car does when it's finished.

Tigger.. I know but my car wasn't cut for them and I didn't wanna do the cutting. I wish there was some way to mount speakers in the rear so they were not seen, I may even just go with just the front speaker if it sounds OK. Killer tunes or a boom-boom car isn't a requirement for me, just decent sound is all I want for this project... when I get to working on the 77 cruising wagon then I will do the killer tunes thing.

Kudos on not going with the speakers in the doors.  I know it was a factory option, but they've always looked like a crappy afterthought to me.

Something I've always wondered about Is having a metal bracket welded in right behind the doors to house a speaker (you could even make a small enclosure to go behind it) and using one of the factory grilles in the interior pannel.  If done right, it could look stock.

Also, is there any chance you could get a full side-shot of the car so I can get a full look at the "boss" stripe?  I had a similar Idea for my pinto, but I could never fully picture it in my head.  Thanks.

Thanks Bigh4th, I've been having a difficult time figuring out the speaker arrangement. I want good sound but don't want to cut holes and want the speakers as invisible as possible. What I found for the front is perfect for me considering what I'm trying to do. If I really want to hide rear speakers the best I can come up with (like you suggested) was installing the speaker inside the rear quarters under the side panels (see picture below). However then the speakers will be covered by the interior side panels blocking my sound so it's not a perfect solution. I had thought to cut holes and use a speaker cover but I'm trying not to cut anything. Some other considerations have been under the front seats but I may just have to do speaker enclosures in the rear. I'll have to wait untill it's all back together and the stereo is installed to make any final decisions. I may get lucky and the speaker for the dash I ordered will sound good enough for this project and all other considerations will be dropped.

Also, here's the best pictures of the "Boss" stripe I have seen yet.

click here --->http://www.geocities.com/bosspintopage/

mine didn't turn out exactly like this (mine is solid with no pin stripe) and I didn't go with the rear stripe between the tail lights.

My dad told me (i'm not old enough to remember) that they used to make instalation kits to put speakers (albeit small ones) in the marker light access ports in the back.  Doubt it would sound great, but maybe that could be an option for you?  Can always get used covers for them so you don't have to slice up your originals.

Other than that, theres not a whole lot of other places to hide speakers in Pintos that I can think of.   That dual voicecoil setup sounds pretty cool.  I saw that episode of Classic car on DIY as well.  the first thing that popped into my mind was doing the hidden headunit so I can keep the stock AM radio, and hooking it up with diodes so I can use either one.

Yeah, I'm weird.

Bigh4th, that was my first idea until I asked myself how I was gonna change a bulb if I need to... it is still floating in the back of my mind as a possible location. Just have to wait and cross that bridge when I come to it  ;D

Also, with them in the side like the picture has, you would have to make sure it doesn't interfere with the shoulder harnesses.  On my 79, I used a pair of 4" round speakers in some pieces of mdf and just trimmed them the right size for the marker light access openings, with screw holes to mount them the same way as the stock covers.  This made it so I could still remove them to replace the bulbs if that problem arose.  Another side panel idea would be to get the grilles off of an early 80s escort wagon.  They will cover 5x7s I think.  I haven't tried it, but you might be able to use the side panel grilles off of a mid season fox Mustang.  I have 6x8s behind mine in my 87.

Thanks Tigger, I ended up buying some generic sport mirrors (no remote) so they could be installed and painted. They look OK but not the same as Pinto sport mirrors.

I did get a passenger side sport mirror on Ebay but I just received it. It's a non-remote style, paint is rough but mirror is tight and good shape. I have yet to test fit on the car as I'm not sure the base/mount has the correct angle for a Pinto. I'll try it today now that I have my car back.

then I pulled the front bumper, have a re-chrome I'm installing, and cleaned up the mounting hardware.

Car looks GREAT! Only thing I would have done different is round off the front corner of the stripe a little. it's a little Lego-ish! And I'm not a fan of the brown interior, But who am I to say? I'm painting my Pinto PINK!! :P

Hey Mrpinto, I wish the stripe was rounded too, it's painted on so not much I can do about it now. Odd thing is he rounded the rear of the stripe but not the front. I have "something" I'm planing for the stripe... pictures later when finished.

Interior colors were (almost) picked for me, rear seats were recovered by the previous owner. They were brown and I liked the recover job so had the front seats done the same. I think the brown and black interior will look good when finished. I just hope the brown in the seats matches well w/the paint.

more updates  ;D

started hooking up the electrical this past week... not much worked after I connected the light switch. Most of my connectors had paint on them and the grounds were a little iffy. New bulbs for everything, cleaned up the grounds and connectors and now happy to report all interior/exterior lights work as they should.

Got the new shiny re-chromed front bumper installed, no more bumper guard holes. Need to find the perfect fog lights to cover up thoes tabs hanging down. Saw some at wal-mart that looked like they will work.

Did have 1 unfortunate thing happen... the glass on this project just doesn't like me... first a new windshield, then pop-out window broke in shipping and NOW!!! the passenger window shattered. I was closing the door (no.. I didn't slam it) and the glass literally just exploded. unfortunately the window was only up a couple inches so the bulk of the broken glass is in the door. I don't know why but me and glass are just not getting along. I'll be looking into what inside the door might have contacted the window to break it but for now I just guess it was old and weak.

I also pulled off all the pinstriping around my "hocky stripe" I didn't like it, it was to far from the stripe so I'll redo it only much closer.

Took the rear carpet out of the box and was happy to see it wasn't molded for a spare tire as I requested. Now I'll be able to "hide" an amplifier in the tire well if I decide to install the one I have.

Past time for updates... let's see where am I... 6 weeks to have it ready  ;D

Have the dash all back together, stock wiring is all hooked up and working as it should. Stereo installed and sounds good, plenty of speaker wire routed to the back for multiple speaker options. Car runs and should be ready today to take to the exhaust shop and get the passenger window replaced this week, I have to mount up the driver seat today. Have my fog lamps mounted to cover up the tabs for the front bumper guards. Oil and temp bracket is mounted. All traces of the white pinstripe have been removed and I'm ready to apply "my little fix" for the mach stripe. I hope to have a lot of other things done today. Weather is warm and I'm motivaed to time to get back to work.

Still a lot to do before the Tulsa show in 7 weeks.

Thanks High_Horse, we'll keep in touch about the Tulsa show as it gets closer and plans can be made. I do however need to start thinking about reservations soon as it will fill up soon.

I can't believe how much "busy" work I got done this weekend. I'm really impressed they way it all went back together. I still have a couple item's I need for the dash/interior but deals are made/in the works for the final items.

I was starting to worry and the show is getting closer every day. I wasn't able to work on the car for one reason or another and it was starting to worry me. It's ready to have the passenger glass installed and is running so I'm ready to get the exhaust installed. I'm gonna bust-a-move this week trying to get that done. I want to take it for it's first drive next weekend if possible. Once the above 2 items get done then carpet and seats will be installed and most of the major work is done. Then it will be little things and any running issues to be taken care of...

Man! it felt so good to finally get some work done on it...

yes... I know the stripe isn't correct, you have no idea how upset I was to see it done this way. best I could do was redo the pin stripe to get it closer to what it was supposed to be. looks much better now and I'm almost happy with it  ;)

The red looks good, I like it on the Pinto, just not my favorite color is all. As I recall you said pink for yours... I wanna see that.

My Pinto makes it's debut at it's first car show. The local club had it's annual car show this weekend so I decided to go. It even made the front page of the local paper - kind of - the emblem did.  ;D

You posted that you have a 2.25 exhust to a flowmaster muffler.  Is thyat a straight 2.25 from the headder to the muffler?  also which flowmaster did you use?
thanks

Actually I have a Magnaflow muffler (muffler shop didn't have flowmaster) and yes it is a 2.25" from the header all the way back.

Thanks Jim, I do get a lot of compliments and I'm happy with the final result. Just a few more loose ends to tie up and then I hope to get started on the real project.

I'm pretty much done updating this post and all future updates will be found

here --> http://www.cookieboystoys.com/73%20pinto.htm

It's a history from purchase to restore in pictures and comments and as I recall there are 180+ photos to browse. I will be adding a final page to this set of web pages once I have 1 final thing done to the Pinto but for now it's as complete as it gets. Hope you all enjoyed the progress on this little project and soon it will be time to start the 77 Cruisin' Wagon in ernest...
