Title: sprint pinto production numbers...
Post by: bigh4th on November 27, 2006, 03:28:42 PM
Does anyone know how many sprint pintos were made?  also, were there any special numbers designating the trim?

The reason I ask is because I have found a pinto that is solid white, but has the sprint interior in it.  Just want to know if its a true sprint that has been re-painted, or if someone did a interior swap.  Thanks.

Hello bigh4th,
What year Pinto did you see?
Most likely a 73 Pinto.
My 72 P.P. was a Grabber blue Pinto and had the Sprint interior.
Was wasted by the time I got it.

This is bigh4th, just on another computer....

Pintony,

Its not a 73 as the front bumper doesn't have bumper guards or the bolts that would be behind them, so its a 72 at the latest.  I Guess I could've checked the vin, but although there were cars there, no one answered the door.  I didn't want to get down and stare at the vin or anything.

I should also add that the wheel covers had blue trim around them where there would normaly be black.

I'll go back tomorrow and see if anyone is home and/or get the VIN.

The body is in ok condition.  there's a little rot on the quarters, but nothing that isn't fixable.  The only other problem I saw was that the drivers seat seam had split.  Doesn't look to have been wrecked at all.  Its much better than the 2 that popped up on ebay recently.

My only fear is that the owner wants to gut it and demo-derby it.  In which case, i would trade him my 73 straight-up.  But if he knows what he has and is restoring it, then awesome.

Ok, got another chance to look at it today.  Of course no one was home and I still haven't heard anything...

It is indeed a 72 going by the VIN and with a little more investigating, it is indeed a painted-over SPRINT.  The paint on the tail light pannel was peeling and there was blue under it.

Under closer inspection, it is still very salvageable, its a lot of work. The quarters have rust, there are a couple of spots below the quarter windows, and the hood has a couple of spots of rust as well.  If you could get 2 full quarter panels, that would knock most of the work out.

I got a couple of pics that I will try to upload in a sec...

Well, the pics came out over-exposed on the digi-cam.  not worth posting.  Sorry.
