Me and my buddy were wondering what was the source of the original 2.3 in my 77 pinto wagon. Figuring it was something in the head but upon further inspection this is what we found.

The broken piece was being bounced around in the pan for years.
Manly pistons don't wear skirts.
OHhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
that is U.G.L.Y.!!!!!!!
I have been tellin you guys that the 2.3 is junk. ;D
From Pintony
Oh this engine was far from being junk. This was the original engine with a ton of miles and still a lot of power. The broken piston skirt is what happens when you drive the thing having your foot in it everywhere you go. I drove this perfectly running car into the shop to pull the engine to make room for a turbo 2.3 from a Merkur. Call me crazy but I think the 2.3 is one of the best engines Ford ever made.

Hey 77turbowagon,
YES the Turbo2.3 block is a very good engine.
I'm just messin with ya....
Yes sir!! Very common 2.3 problem. Aftermarket pistons fix that though. I like the hyperutectic one's that are designed for the newer Ranger 2.3s.
