Title: Race Team
Post by: Chris on February 15, 2004, 02:31:03 PM
Some associates and i, all about 19 yrs old, want to start racing. Drag, oval, autocross, whatever. We just need help on how we get started. How do you start a race team and where do you get money from? This is still in the planning stages but we need as much info as possible. thanks for your help. Most likley we will drag since the SA Raceway is only about 30 minutes away. Any and all help would be apprecaited. Thanks

My suggestion would be to use the internet to check out various racing series, Check the NHRA/ IHRA web sities(drag racing), SCCA/ NASA(road racing, autocross(or gymkhana, as us old farts used to call it)), and NASCAR's smaller series(mini stock, oval racing).
Starting as amatuers(i.e. with your own funding) is a good way to get started, and get organized. Oganization is one of the keys to a good team, and looks great to a sponsor. Sponsor's can be local businesses, tire stores, trans shops, etc. but try going and doing a few events on your own, and as you get ready to go to the next level, begin approaching sponsors(with some results in hand) and tell them of your plan. It's alot easier to get someone to give you money or parts when you can show what you can do with what you got, instead of having a car and some buddies that you call a team. Results pay.

Good Luck!
