Title: More questions?Front suspension
Post by: gt40tt on November 21, 2006, 01:48:12 PM
I installed shorter coil springs from Racer Walsh back in 1974 when my 72 Pinto had the 4 cyl.
After installing the 289 the car has a tendency to kiss the roadway at times.
What springs is anyone using with their V8 Pinto cars to avoid this problem?I will say that with the short springs the car sits very nice, hate to give up the low look.Suggestions?
Also, still looking for an answer for replaceing the spindles to go to 5 lug

I do not have experience with V8 conversions.  Racer Walsh (www.racerwalsh.com, 800-334-0151) sells mini stock racing springs for the early Pintos 5" dia. by 8" long in ranges from 500 to 1000 pounds, part number 2216.  Their paper catalog describes the springs better than their web site while the web site list more spring rate choices.  They may be able to recommend a spring rate for you.

Hello gt40tt,
Using J.Y. parts I would say that IF you could find a wagon W/A.C.
I have a 73 Wagon W A/C that I would trade you the springs out of for the R.W springs that you have now.
That would be the closest to what is available for stock parts.
Remember there is a 1" difference in springs between the early Pinto and 74-UP Pinto.
If you have a 74-up W/I4? The early spring might be a good swap for putting your Pinto in the weeds?????
