Title: 8 inch rear,which one
Post by: gt40tt on November 21, 2006, 01:09:46 PM
I am sure its posted somewhere, but can someone tell me which(if any) 8 inch rearends are the exact flange to flange and mounting perch to perch as a 1972 Pinto.
I am going to go 5 lug, disc brake and will have a stock rear drum to drum with 3:55 posi to sell when I am finished. It has 45,000 miles on it,posi about 5000 miles.
If there is not exact fit which is the best one to cut and paste.

FAQ section - 8 inch rears:

In here it is posted that the early Pintos will take the same rear as the later ones (I say that because I have never had one older than a 75).

If you want a true "bolt in", you need a rear from a Pinto, Bobcat, or Mustang II. There is "cut + paste" info on that thread too.

Interesting facts in that post string, but no mention of the Granada/Monarch rears.  I believe I read someone had taken the axleshafts out of a Granada 8", and they swapped right in to the Mustang II rear they were working on, giving them a quick way to get five lug axles and brakes.  Does anyone know if this is a viable solution?  Thanks.
