I have a 72 Runabout with a V8 that I want to convert to 4 wheel disc,5lug wheels,and an 8 or 9 inch rear.
Has anyone used Baer or Wilwood, and are there any aftermarket spindles and tubular A arms that work with these cars?
Thanks for your help.
Hello gt40tt,
I am doing the 5 lug conversion on my 1972 Pangra right now.
Sorry I can not help you with any of the EXOTIC brake conversions.
The tubular A-arms are designed for the 74 and later Pinto MII.
The geometery is different for the 71-73 Pinto.
So I do not know how that would effect the front bump steer of a 72 pinto.
As soon as I get the rest of my parts I ewill be showing a complete front end re-build in MY Projects.
Most likely be after T-Day.

I have already done this to my 72 a little after Brad posted his FAQ article on his upgrade... I used nothing more than the HOT ROD(mustang II \ Pinto 74 and up) 5 lug rotors 75$ for the pair sold in small ford 5 lug pattern or a small Chevy pattern... took the stock calliper bracket to the Machine shop and had them relocate the large hole a small amount to keep the calipers from touching the rotor and on the small bolt hole I fallowed Brads instructions on off setting the bracket with two stainless steel washers and two new bolts. it was really easy..I have a 71 front end I'm doing shortly and I will Drill my own calliper mount with my new minimill.

Did you use stock callipers or did you have to replace them ? I have a 73 pinto that i was looking at changing over
from 4 lug to 5. And you were able to use your stock calliper brackets with the modifications? Also the wheel bearings are the
stock 72 pinto bearings? Sorry for all the questions i am just trying to learn. I spend more money on trial and error on most
of my projects than i care to admit.

Hello Phill B.,
I am converting my 1971 Pangra from front drums to 5-lug disc.
As soon as the spindles I bought from Don C. arive I will be starting my photo-how to convert a 1971-73 Pinto to 5-lug using all stock 71-73 Pinto parts except the rotors.
I have this set-up on my Purple Pinto for the last 12 years.

Everything is stock exccept the rotor. I pulled the dust sheilds off (they are in the way of the new calipars) and I replaced the bearings and sealswhiles I was at it.. machine work was only done to one Hole. to offset the factory calipar bracket , moving it inward a little.
BRakes are nothing I take lightly. I had the little Blue car up to 110 this summer and everything has worked flawless. I pulled the front apart and checked for stress on the machine work. so far so good.
Now if I can tell how much gas I have in it...
