Hi everyone, me and my a couple of my friends are putting together a sandrail and we have a pinto 2.0 (71) on a VW tranny...
Weve done just about everything we can think of to try and get it started but it wont go... it will backfire and fire comes out of the pipe but it wont start... we need some help on how to find how to get the timing right... anyone wanna help?
sounds like your 180 deg off on the timing. You may think the crank is in the correct location but you may be 180 off. make sure the #1 piston is a TDC, remove the plug and with a wire or something long, rotate the crank untill the piston is all the way up, then , mark that location on the crank pully and locator ( the factory stuff may be wrong. Then, time your cam by making sure the 2 ( O^O ) is streight down AND both the intake and ex valves are closed. Then install the distrubitor so #1 plug wire is in the 11:00 position. The hardest thing is making sure that when you install the belt, you take the slack out at the distrubitor not the crank or cam.
