Gret find for $400. Looks pretty solid, and i'm sure it will be a nice project when you are done with it.
Shawn
Hey Shawn,
Too many projects ahead of this one...
I just want it for the engine.
IF the body is not too bad I may throw a quickie paint job and use it for a daily driver for a while.
From Pintony
Tony,
This car is near Wichita, KS, right? High_Horse country! Let me know when you are going after it.
Dave
Hello Dave,
I sent High-Horse a PM.
Have not heard back...
Hope to meet up with him when I go.
It looks as of now I will be skipping the Columbus swap to make the trip.
I would like to delay the trip to W.K. untill the next week so I can do C. Ohio and the trip to get the Pinto.
I'll LYK.
From Pintony
so what's the verdict? You still be at the Columbus Ohio swap meet? If so I'll plan on seeing you for that c3 tranny mentioned in your thread.
Hello R4pinto,
I am sorry but at this moment it looks as if I will not be making the Columbus swap.
The tranny is yours. Will just have to figure another way to deliver.
I am bummed out!
Just BAD timming I guess...
From Pintony
Pintony,
Looking forward to connecting up. Will get directions to you in plenty of time for a direct route here. Arrangements are made for you to bunk here.

Oh well. The car will just have to wait for now. Atleast I got my 8 " rear end to install for now.
Hey Tony,
A buddy of mine has a 1600, and a manual tranny with it.
What do you figure is the going price for both? Or as seperate items.
I'll be going to see my sister in Tennessee tomorow for Thanksgiving, so I won't be around for awhile.
Enjoy, and Happy Holidays.

Hey UltimatePinto,
I sold a few 1600cc engines to caterham.
The last I heard that California had changed the way they were
interpreting the smog law and they no longer needed the the pushrod 1.6.
Maybe they just found a cheeper source????
I just want it to mess around with the 1.6.+ with it being a 1973 Pinto it has parts that I need for many projects.

Hello Group,

One up for Brad, nice link!
Tony... the 1.6 sure looks a lot differnet than the 2.0 or 2.3 - it's backwards :)
Looks Good!
Here is another link for paint colors and codes.

Tony, I think you can still work out the dent in that fender......... :accident:
What's with the green and purple? Did The Kroffts or Dick Dastardly own the car?
what diameter pipe did they use on your exhaust system?
Pintony,
The car looks good. The sound the car made when you first started it up sounded normal to me. Are you saying that it still sounds that way even after the new exhaust? It would be nice to have that car absolutly silent when it is running. Seeing as how that car was not originally equiped with a catilytic converter and how a small pipe of fairly thick gauge would tend to transmit sonic resenance comparable to a wet string between two dixie cups.......I would probably try to install a resonator somewhere under there. But seeing that I,m the kind of Horse that would not want to restrict flow then I might try an expantion chamber of about 2-2.5 DIA. BY 24"long wrapped tightly with some good quality braided heat tape a couple of layers thick to absorb/transfuse the shock waves.

Remove & block the de-acceleration valve, it should sound better. Mine did.
Pintony,
That makes sense to me.
High_Horse
#226
Before I blocked my de-acceleration valve it would set-up a harmonic noise in the exhaust system between shifts and when slowing down. I am sure the valve was not adjusted correctly and was in play too long after letting off the gas. Either way I wanted to take it off anyway.
.....in addition to my previous post, the decel valve , by reducing HC will also reduce CO emissions
if you can't find them already made you might try a sheet of gskt material and cut your own
im not sure if pegasusautoracing.com has it for the hedders. i know they have exhaust gaskets for the stock motor. also have you thought of grabbing the intake manifold.2 barrel carb and electronic ignition off a late 77 thru 80 model ford fiesta. just a though. i do have PAR catalog. and they list alot of stuff for the 1.6 . also formula ford international makes parts that are no longer available otherwise. foot note. my first car was 1971 pinto with 1.6 learned alot from it.
Tony,
Have you picked a color yet?
Here's the two I have:
21/WA227M (GM - Lazer Blue Metalic Clearcoat) Found on the 05-06 Chevy Equinox. IMHO, a nice bright blue.
SN/M7095A (Ford - Sonic Blue Pearlcoat) Found on 04 Mustang GTs. A little darker, deeper blue than the GM color.
Pintony,
I was going to call ya but this is better yet....Cool!!I bet that baby feels like brand new. That is one dam lucky Pinto.
High_Horse
Pintony,
What kind of welder are you using? Is it yours? That is some nice work you are doing. Could you please move next door?
High_Horse
hey there pintony, i ran 2 1/4 with a 4x9 turbo muffler in the far rear. its pretty quiet. its on a 2.3 w/heddman header. if you want it a little more silent, use a chrysler resonator where the cat would be. that should get her pretty darn quiet. and like they said, if ya wanna wrap it and that will 4 sher help too. tony v

Hello starliner,
The decel-valve has been blocked.
Curious??? How would that make the engine less noisy???
From Pintony
Hey Tony V,
Thank you for your response to my 1.6 exhaust ?
From Pintony
Hey Tony,
Not sure if you picked out your Blue yet but I got to put my vote in. I am going with a mid 90's Ford blue on my 73. Lapis Blue Metallic Paint code # 4506 in PPG DBU. Ill Email A pic to you of the engine bay after I painted it...Rob
This color is great. I am painting my 77 with this whole color scheme, complete with cowled hood and scoop.
Looks good to me
Pintaro
Man, that IS some nice work, Pintony. I can't wait to see this one done. Than again, I have yet to see any of your cars that I wouldn't do anything to own...... (even if they do have round headlights)
Just kidding. In all seriousness, that was a nice looking piece. Do you have a metal break, or do you just bend it over the edge of a workbench or something like I did my hood scoop?
Looks good Tony
I can't see the difference between that part & the stock part, except the new metal isn't rusted. I so gotta learn how to do work like that.

From Pintony
I spoke with Alberto about one month ago, and he said that it was still holding. Thanks for the help that night.
looking good Tony..
keep up the good work ;D
$14.00 for your highest power bill? I like those electricity rates!
Dave
PS. I know that is probably just for your shop, unless you don't let the Ms. run the A/C. Nice work Tony.
Hay Pintony!
I am willing to buy the dog dish hubcaps off of your 1600 to offset those high electricity costs.
Leonard

Leonard
What was the origanal color on this car, and did all VEGA's have 2300 in them?

OMG!!! I thought we got it bad w/the humidity....
Tony,
I almost hate to ask this because folks will think I am a real doof, but what are you using to strip the paint to bare metal? A wire wheel? Chemicals? I am not a paint/body man at all, but there is some of that in my future.
Dave
SWEET....
Good info Tony.
I still don't see what white is right.
Bill
What no pic of the gas cylinder?
Tony, To save Time, money and weight , Strip the car and clear coat over the SHINY metal....................... :o
Tony,
Do you ever use chemical stripper,.. or do you sand everything?
what color do you plan to paint the car?
Tony
looking good white is a good color. the 9A is the color of by bobcat. if you can rember seeing it from 2 yrs ago. If you have left over paint and want to do some more let me know. ;D
Phils toys.
sounds good tony, I've painted most of my cars so i can do the Mustang laser red, will take me a while to block/sand and get it Smooth for pain but it will be worth it in the end
Tony keep up the good work. The car is coming along real nicely. What color is the interior going to be?
I see you'll be doing the interior in blue and white... will this car be the recipient of that newly-acquired NOS blue dash pad? Congratulations on winning the auction!
Dwayne
Hay Tony!
