I'm installing a v8 86 roller h.o.302, in my 73 pinto, can a oil pan off a foxbody mustang work?,do i resort to modifying,or what oil pan will work the best ,also would a front sump pan work?any suggesting??? :lost: man!! it is a tight fit! thanks, shawn
mustang pan won't fit, your need a front sump pan from a crown vic from the '80's (302) and even then it might need to be modified a bit.
Hello, the closest fit for oil pans are the mildon 9 quart and the stock Mustang ll V8 pan and pickup. Most normal v8 pans wont clear the rack. The mustang 2 barely clears it. Youll also have to use a dipstick in the front so youll need a cover that will accept a dipstick as well.
Also theres exhaust. The eaisiest are the old mustang style manifolds. They go straight back and dont turn down. Then use a down pipe "home free". Headers are a major pain and you can either go custom like i did and make some fit down by the tunnel or you can use the Hooker header swap headers that go around the fender wells. Engine mounts are easy if you have the hard to find Mustang II engine mounts and frame mounts(they arent avalible aftermarket and ford stopped making them years ago. -Ebay ).
Just do a search here in the project section here @ Fordpinto.com and youll see a few clean installs. Should give you alot of hope and ideas.
If you want any specific questions answered ,let me know. Ill do my best or try to find out.
Good luck
thank you for that information ,could you give me a part number for the mildon pan?,i think trying to find a mustangII pan might be hard,i already got the hooker engine mounts and hooker headers from e-bay.have to keep looking maybe for oil pan on e-bay too. thanks for the help!
heres the page from The milodon site. Dont forget you also need the pickup to go with it.
You might want to check ebay if you have the time to wait. These pans are pricey new. Dont go with the knock offs that are on ebay. They look just like the Milodons but MAY not have the same construction and may not fit. Dont know.
Good luck
