hey all, im a newbie to this board, and to fords.....but with a thing for go fast cars, and little money, this sounds like a great project.........
got a 76 wagon, with a bad rear end....for 100.00 and its like clean and nice
got a 425 HP 302,built c6 (both with like 400 miles on them) fox body ' stang roll cage(new),pair of race buckets, betls, fuel cell, barry grant fuel punp(new) lots of new braided line,v8 pinto motor mounts, pair of new holley 650 carbs, new mallery ingition unit, and lots of other misc parts....for 1500.00 minus 350.00 for the stock motor/trans from my wagon..........so all that for 1250.00
its been a long time sence i built a car,and the last one i did was a buddies '68 cuda with a alky injected 510 cid hemi.....race car..........and its time i get bussy and go something, and i wanna race,so this sounds like a fun project to me
any words of advise are greatly needed here,as this is my first one i dint have a lot of money to spend on , nor some one else brighter than i to tell me the right parts to put in it.....
so my first question is......i have a 8.8 rear end out of a cop car, posi 4:10 gears, about 70,000 miles on it........is there any thing i should know about these?? i have all the stuff to build a ladder set up for under the back of it...........U B machine/performance is here in town and they make about 70 % of all the good suspention parts for other shops, and they will sell cash to you,so a quick trip down there netted me all the parts i needed, but i hat to weld the bars to gather, but hey i got it all for less then 50.00....................
any thoughts on this?? or what kinda springs to run? the stockers? or what??
thanks in advance

Sell everything but the wagon and the rear end and put a nice 2.3 turbo and T5 in it. :welcome:

Yes, cop cars get BEAT on. IMHO: It is way too wide to install without some money to have it shortened. 8" rears are fairly durable in these light cars, but if you really need more, I would say to go with a 9".

What do you want to do with the car? That will determine what you should do.
Bill
BTW: Welcome.
yes i know a 9" ford or a 8 3/4 mopar would be a better choice, but the cop car rear end is free..........and i can shorten it my self...........and aftermarket axles are cheap, even if i have to buy them new, moser eng is just about 30 miles away, and i can go right to them and pick up a set
as far as what do i want to do with it.....90% of the time it will see the drag strip(till i break my rear end,or some other parts) 10 % of the time it will see a little use,a car is no fun if you cant drive it once and a while
this is just a fun low money project........so anyhting free or low money even if i have to modify it is a good thing......
and no 2.3s and no turbos..........i like big v8s.........sorry
but thanks for the welcome guys.....
If you go with the 8.8 and Moser axles you should also spring for the c clip eliminators.By the time you spend that much money, you could have put an 8 or 9" in it.Dont underestimate the strength of an 8 inch.I'm running an 8" with a 4.62 and a spool, cutting 1.5 60' times and carrying the front tires a couple of feet in the air. There are a lot of cars running in the 10's with one.Just my 2 cents.BTW--- when you get your "BIB V8" in there let me know,I would like to run you.LOL.Curtis
