what one thing contributes most to increasing horsepower in a 2.3 engine???
I'll have to say it again...turbo! But if your talking about a stock motor, I would then say head work.
I agree with SVO wagon DEEP breathing excercises are the key to HP , remember an engine is an air pump the more air you can get in & out the more HP you'll make. I'm planning on an intake, cam, and header combo to get around 130HP from my 2.3
with head work you could probably get 200-250hp w/out a turbo. I've seen turbo motors getting 400+HP tho (again more air in & out)
you probably dont need the intake and moding the stock carb will go far. I would spend the $$ on a cam,head work and cam pully, the will net you the biggest bang for the buck. on a 2.3 you can yse a ranger roller cam ( out of the junk yard ) and free up a bunch of rpm and HP.
