On wednesday my car decided to take a second crap on me, just like it did on the way home from carlisle. Difference being I was able to get it home. After doing some tests I found the carb was plugged up with junk from the tank. I then bought a rebuild kit from work & tore down the carb I originally had on the car, reassembled it & tried to start it up, with a major problem. It's dumping fuel out the top. I have included a picture of the carb with the part circled where the gas is coming out of.
Any ideas on whats going on? I adjusted it all according to specs & am afraid to run it for obvious reasons.
probably got some crap under the needle keeping it from seating and the bowl is filling up and overflowing out the vents &/or float level WAY too high
well, the float level is right on the money so that's not it. The carb was doing this before which is one of 2 reasons I took the carb off the car to begin with, the other reason being the car wouldn't run. I didn't see any dirt where the needle is, so I think it's ok.
I don't know much about carbs, so how can I prevent the overflowing?
I have had that only happen when the needle and seat were stuck or Blown open via pump preshure(high volume fuel pump).
a bure on the needle will let it get stuck as well.

The needle hooks onto the float right? Again, dunno carbs too well so the names of the parts are unknown to me. How can I fix it if that's the part? I changed it since it came with the rebuild kit. Also, the pump on the car is an oe replacement. The carb I had on it from the junk yard ddint have the spitting problem. It just wouldn't run at all with it on there.
I played around with carbs on my pinto for two years. i finally broke down and bought a new(reman) at autozone for $149.00. it was the best thing i ever bought for that car.
good luck with it

I'm going to do that ONLY after I pull the tank & flush it out to remove any rust that is in there. In the mean time I need the car to run with the carb I have on it, since it's my only transportation while my Toyota is down.
Well, I pulled the airhorn back off & removed the needle valve, recleaned the seat & reinstalled it as well as double checked the float. Still spit out the bowl vent. The car will spit & sputter but no fire- the good OR bad kind. I did notice the float seamed to drag against the side of the bowl when I pulled the air horn off so I'm going to order a replacement float & install it when it gets in tomorrow. Don't want to put any money in this carb since I'm just gonna replace it when the tank runs out, but I have no choice right now. I need a car.
I'll update with results.
IT LIVES!!!!! ;D :fastcar: Thanks to all for the tips on the needle valve & float situations. It turned out to be a bad float on the carb. I installed the one I bought from work & the car fired right up. I have to adjust the carb with the engine running since right now the car is idling too low, but it's raining so I'm just gonna leave it for now. Atleast it runs. I it has so much more power han before. Even more than after I took it off to put on the junkyard carb on it to begin with. & she runs so much smoother too. Maestro, please cue the pinto songs as I can now scare corporate when they do the store visit tomorrow. MUAHAHAHA!!!!!
