was planing fun time drag car v8 with 8"slicks and a posi !

If you are talking about the 6.75" integral carrier rear... don't even think about it. The 8" removable carrier rear will work fine. I have seen them live in 10-11 second cars.

I agree....ive seen it happen! The 6.75 will last about 6.75 seconds behind a high hp motor. My buddies 8 inch has lasted years with an 11 second 351w.
Its the Torque that will kill the small rear end. Me and my buddies including Dan Esslinger ran turbo 2.0L cars in the mid 70s around town and at Irwindale Drag strip and thrashed the snott out of them. Recked all the syncros but never actually blew one up. I have seen a 2.3 Turbo Pinto twist a 8" axle but never blow one up. I would just as well go with a 9" in a V8 car. I got one in my 289 and I dont worry about it breaking.
Which Rearend does a 1979 Pinto come with?
'79 & '80 came with the 6.75" rear regardless of the engine.

I pulled an 8 inch rear from a 1980 Pinto wagon last fall. I don't know what engine the car had in it, because it was already gone.
I assumed that the 8 inch rear was OE to that car.
yes wagons with the V6 came with 8 inch rears standard. I believe in the V6 cars it was an option.....somebody correct me if i'm wrong.
Will a Mustang II Rearend Fit right under the Pinto? Same Mounting ?
Yes.
I installed a 8.7 rear end out of a 1977 Ford Granada--it bolted right in --no problems..
