I'm thinking of getting the engine in the 71 rebuilt... Would most reputable machine or engine shops have the access to parts to complete this task? I'm not really too sure on the availability of them. Anyone have a rough estimae of cost on the parts? Anyone had this done themselves? Any insights would be greatly appreciated...
Adam
Hi Adam,
The first place to start would be whatever machine shop that has been suggested in your area. They would let you know what they could not get.
There is also Esslinger Engineering on the West Coast and I think that you can still get two liter stuff from Racer Walsh on the East, for engine parts. My shop had pistons custom made for my application at the tune of about $100.00 apiece.
Another source you may wish to consider is BAT, (British American Transfer, I think), and Pegasus Racing, both of which, (along with Walsh), are located in Florida. They are into the high end Formula racing stuff.
A lot depends upon what or where you want to go with your engine, as far as performance goes, when price is a factor.
I think that all of these folks have web sites.
