What I 'race' now..................... :o
Nice cars ( old & new). What kind of mods did you do on the Pinto. I have been running my Pinto for a lot of years in IHRA stock elim. Have had 2 -1/8mi records with it. Looking for 14.70s or better this year on the 1/4mi. in mostly stock trim inside & out.
Lots-o-luck this year.
Thanks for the kudos. (miss that PInto). :'(
The mods, (from what I can recall), were this: Stock block. .060 over. Jahns pistons. 12.5 to 1 ratio. Turbo rods. Crank was turned .10/.10. Head was shaved .090". 327 chebbie valves in it.(way oversize). Every mod that Racer Walsh co. made for head. Ported and polished HUGE. Solid cam, with all the accessories to let it 'wing' to over 9 grand easy. (and it did). Adjustable cam sprocket. Aluminum crank pulley. Hooker header. Homemade intake, with a 500 holley 2 bbl. (it worked the best. I tried a 4 bbl, a 350 holley, and a 650 holley 2 bbl, but the 500 worked absolutely great.
Ignition was an antique dual point mallory dist, with an accel super coil, and mallory wires. It had a chrome valve cover (for dress up). Other then that, engine wise, not much to it.
Clutch was all out of turbo setup. (heavier). German 4 speed. Rear end was an 8" with a spool out of a granada, or maverick, (I forget which). Gears were 4.88s. Tires were tiny little 6" x 13" M&H slicks, mounted on ET wheels all around. Stock brakes/suspension, (other then taking the rubber mounts out of the rear spring mounts, and making it all solid. Homemade slapper bars. Worked fairly well. I'd launch it, side stepping the clutch at 6 grand, and shift just as it went out of the tach. *8500+>
Again, wish I had it now. I'd upgrade the ignition, toss a C4 in it, and jjuice it.......:>)
Thanks again for the kudos.
Mustang's run a best (this year), of a 9.74 @ 137.65, with a 1.34 60 foot. Just jumped from 5th to 2nd in points........gotta love that chit! :>)
