Title: My 74 Squire wagon turbo project
Post by: Gaslight on September 11, 2006, 03:34:49 PM
So I finally got around to putting the turbo motor into the wagon.  Have had everything for sometime I could just not find the time to get it done.  Dropped the motor in after getting it prepped with a Pinto pan and pickup.  Couple things I noticed right away as shown by the pictures.  On the turbo side one of the studs sticking out of the wastegate elbow is touching the inner fenderwell.  Easy fix since I am going to put a modified unit with the downtube section just welded on.  On the driverside the oil filter is pushing up against a brake line but a little tweak of the brake line will fix that.  The hood won't shut either but I have read about that from a lot of different people and different fixes.  Have to see what I decide to do.

Looks good.

I did not have the oil filter, nor the outlet flange issues that you have. Mine has the stock oil cooler and a short filter.

Is the tranny in it yet? If not, how is the angle?

For Connie's car's P/S, I will not be lowering the engine. Instead I am taking about .5" out of the upper intake; it will be tight, but it should work.

Bill,

Tranny is not in yet but I will post it when I do.  Before I do the trans I was to get the wastegate housing changed out for one that should allow no more hitting on the inner fenderwell.  I also want to fix that brake line.  So this Saturday I will pick the motor back out of the car and fix those two things so the motor will fit in right.  As soon as the engine is sitting right I will see if I can lower the motor safley a little.  I might make some new motor mounts using poly mounts from something else.
