My day brightener: took my pinto in today for a little carb and body work (a tiny bit of rust needs to be dealt with). Made an apt. with a highly respected company that restores classic autos. Things like Packards, Edsel's. I'm talking very vintage and very valuable. So I drive my pinto in and the shop comes to a standstill. Workers appears out of nowhere. Four employees stand around and galk at it. They start to share their pinto stories; seems they have all owned pintos in their past. The young lady of the group (looks to be in her early 20s and is a certified car mechanic, no less) exclaims as I drive it in, "Here's my Pinto!" She had been looking forward to its arrival. What a warm and cheery welcome my little pinto receives! The lady mechanic promises me that my pinto will get top priority. She shows me all the cars that they are working on....I was looking at millions of dollars worth of cars. She points out one huge cherry red one (1965) owned by a famous basketball player. There's the Citrin (sp?) that is outfitted with hydraulics. None of these cars get parked outside. They stay inside. The floor is packed with these beauties. My little pinto gets tucked neatly beside the black Packard. And as I leave her in their experienced and loving hands, I feel so blessed!!
i have been stopped and galked at also. i got a "hey, a pinto" today, and a few smiles. i love these cars. i have since i got my first one as a gift when i was 16. now i am 18 and absolutely love them!!!
If I had a nickel for every time I heard "Hey!, a Pinto!"
It never gets old.

i think that we all know the cars got a bad rap.. they really were great little cars
I have jokingly started charging people a dollar for their stories and comments that either they had one. Their parents had one or they knew somebody that had one. I tell them that if i had a buck for all of the stories I hear, I could have new carpet in no time. I never actually take the money because the smiles and laughter are payment enough. If "Stormy" can brighten just one persons day, then my job is done.
I get the same thing so I try not to get cornered. What they are really saying is " I wish I still had mine". Anyway I drove through a local burger hangout which is normally bustling with kids. I move through slowly....fans whinning....exhaust pounding. I always get a thumbs up or hey cool car or the excited screach from the girlies. What they are really saying is "What is that thing".
