Well, I've looked & looked on the board & prolly missed it, but I'm gonna ask anyways. What cars have an automatic tranny that will bolt up to the Pinto 2.3? I am looking for either a c3 or c4 & am unaware what cars I can get a tranny from to replace my failing tranny.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanx in advance!
AFAIK you will need a C3 from a Pinto/Bobcat/Mustang of the same years. Any others might bolt-up, but you might need to do minor tweeks, like a different driveshaft, flexplate, torque converter, bell....
What is yours doing? Have you tried the Lucas tranny treatment?
Bill
yeah I tried Lucas, & no go. I changed the fluid before Carlisle & put Lucas in it then, but it's still acting up. it pops out of gear, slips until warmed up, & makes a constant clicking noise when I am driving. When I bought the car they told me the tranny was bad, but I found it just had needed fluid in it. I'm thinking the tranny may have been a bit cooked then, but changing the fluid & filter helped it along a bit, but now the harm is showing up. I'm a great believer in Lucas, since I sell it to my customers at Advance, but in this case, it's not helping.
Hey Matt
One of my local wrecking yards out here has a 77 with a good auto. She gets $175.00 + tax I just have to go pull it.I want the motor so thats not a problem.
You can also use one from a V6 car by changing the bell, and the converter. This works with both c3 or c4. Also, if you go from the c3 to a c4, or vice versa, you will need the flexplate to go with it.

Man, I tell yait sucks to be far away from where you are at. Seems to be the case with all good auto trannys. Fast 34, thanks for the info on the c3 & c4. Hopefully I'll be able to find one soon, but I am going to be parking her soon for the winter, especially since I got a new toy to work on. a 1985 Dodge Omni GLH Turbo. Not a Pinto, but a lot of fun.
