Anybody have any ideas about the button, I.m wondering if I could fashion one out of wood?

If it fits properly, and stays in the handle, there's no particular reason why a wooden one wouldn't work, but it would probably quickly break in use due to some of the small cross sectional areas in combination with the wood grain direction of the piece of wood involved.
On the other hand,  if you have a METAL cutting lathe and some experience with metal or plastic turning....

Less hassle to buy it if you can find one.

Trying to find one to purchase. I was thinking I could go by SOCal Speed shop and see if they have a handle that might work, I don't think they will have just the button. I will let you know what I find out.
