Has anyone removed the whole dash assembly from a Pinto? I am parting out a 78 wagon, and just for grins, I want to take the dash out in one piece. I'm guessing that there are screws below the windshield behind the rubber gasket?
Hey lugnut:
I recently removed my dash pad from my 77 c-wagon and sent it off to be restored. I
have attached a figure showing where the six bolts and nuts are located for my 77 Pinto.
The bolts and nuts for the 78 wagon should be in the same places. You will have to remove the
air registers and the ducts to get to the nuts as shown in the figure. The one nut
that was a real bitch to get was the one behind the instrument panel. You don't have to
completely remove the instrument panel but you will have to remove the retaining screws
and move it out of the way to get to the dash pad nut. Once you have removed all
of the nuts the dash pad will lift right out.
Hope this helps!

Hi Mike,
I have removed the complete dash assembly out of a Pinto and it's not that bad. In fact, I could take a photo of the one I've got so you can see where the attaching screws are. You are correct about there being screws behind the windshield weatherstrip. Because the car I removed it from was in the salvage yard, it didn't matter whether I destroyed the weatherstrip or not so I used a razor blade and cut it away. Made it much easier to remove. If you want the photo, let me know!
Hey lugnut:
Just read what wagonmaster wrote and thought you were interested in removing
the dash pad but just realized you wanted to remove the complete dash assembly.
Sorry about that, maybe someone can use the dash pad information anyway.

Thanks for the help, guys. The car has a busted windshield, and some rust, so it will be scrapped when I'm done- so I will cut the rubber to get to the screws.
Wagonmaster: A pic would be appreciated, or at least it would help to know how many screws I need to find!
77cw: I appreciate the effort; sorry you had to waste your time!
I once removed the whole dash on a '70 Challenger, and I did as you did- practiced on a car in a junkyard. That one was easy- a few screws below the w/s, and the whole thing kind of pivoted rearward on a bolt behind each kick panel.
thanks again,
mike
Hi Mike,
I've got a little time early tomorrow morning. I'll try to get the photo for you then and get it up here.

yup, your right, there are about 4 or 5 screws under the windsheild of the car. your gonna have to pull that windsheild to get to them too. get a buddy to help you, and you should have it out in about an hour or less. the size of the screws is a 3/8" i think, not exactly sure its been a while since i pulled mine.
Hi Mike,
Here's the photos. There are five screws across the top and then, I believe there's a bolt or two on each side to tie it to the body. Hope these help!
