You can't weld it into a "posi", but you can weld it into a "locker".

A "posi", or as Ford calls it, a "Trac-Loc" is a LIMITED SLIP. A locker has NO SLIP.

In other words you will be making it a LIVE axle. This is not a good idea for street driving.

To do it you need to pull the spider gears and weld or braize between some of the teeth.

ok i know that answer didnt help lol

ok im not looking at the rear end so heres my best bet of how to do it

pan on back- pull pan off , clean all grease up , place a leathr rag in side to cover every thing you dont want slag in the bearings, roll axle to get where the hole is at in the carrier (the thing that holds the big gear) you will see some gear in ther weld each tooth that touches roll over and repeat GET ALL SLAG OUT

if its the kind with a center section - spool it

i'am trying a new way of making a posi rear-end. I'm going to put a couple hand fulls of bb's in the casing and weld it shut . I learned it from a guy on wecrash

If is the kind with no center section, you will need more weld and bb's.

bbs huh sounds to me like a good way to bust the pinion and the ring gear to me. this picture is not of what bbs did i wouldnt even try it , the top side where there is a big hole (not very visible in my pic but you can see the spiders sorta) weld them together at all the corners ill try to get better pics these are in a 79 ltd with the good quality 8.8

that pic is why i took it out of my ltd i fabricated a 9 inch with 5.67 gears i took it out becouse it BROKE got to love those junk 8.8s thats the first time i broke the gears i usually just snap the axle off just about an inch or 2 inside of the houseing

best bet would to be buy and install a spool or a mini spool for a 9 inch they are $20-35 but more than likely you will pay a little more for a not so typical (hot roder's choice) rearend

good luck with it
