Title: racing question
Post by: dholvrsn on August 12, 2006, 06:28:27 PM
So what kind of racers are hunting Pintos to extinction just to get their valuable spindles?

I have a parts Pinto that a previous person torched the spindles off.

Well, to tell you the truth, a lot of them are building T-buckets and roadsters.  They used to use the front ends from the Nova's.  Those are all gone, now the Pinto's are on the menu.  Sorry for your luck.  The only other thing that would match would be from a 78 or older Mustang II.  The Mustang II went to struts after that.  Best of luck.

Hi,
The race cars that are using these spindles are the modifieds that run on oval tracks across the country.Better geometry than the GM spindles, and of course much stronger than any GM spindle.Yep,that's who's using them.

There is a partial bright side to the racers and street rodders using the Mustang II and late model Pinto front suspensions.  The after market industry has geared up and is producing all sorts of neat stuff for this suspension (large brakes, coil over conversions, tubular A-arms, new spindle forgings, dropped spindles, etc.).  I do not believe they would make this stuff if it was just for us Pinto and Mustang II owners.

I still do cringe when Pintos are sliced up as you described, in spite of the above benefits.
