Title: Retrofuturism, and the Pinto
Post by: crazyhorse on January 11, 2004, 08:41:56 PM
Ok it seems to me that Ford is on a heritage kick. If that's true is it time for our beloved Lil Horses to stage a comeback? Remember that EVEN WITH the bad press the Pinto got, it was STILL very popular. the primary reason they killed the nameplate is to go to the "world car" Escort nameplate.

If I were working at Ford (hint hint Jeff LOL) here's what i'd do for a Pinto-based Concept car.

Please look at the full size picture it looks funky in the thumbnail LOL

hey, I like the picture. I think it would make a great newer version of the pinto.  I especially like the way you integrated the marker lights into the headlights and still kept the early style front end theme.  The front bumper (cover?) looks cool.  I think it was a very nice touch. Awesome job on the entire car.   Now if only Ford would do it.    Or maybe someone with great metal or fiberglass skills could make one. Take a stock body, rake the roof, change the size and shape of the side glass and make a new front clip.  I think the suspension should stay moderately the same up front.  Drop spindles and bigger sway bars.  Seems as it is still used on many street rods as well as drag and roadrace cars.  The rear suspension should go 2 link with a torque arm with coils supporting it.  Well we can dream can't we.

ok if the concept was to work, could this be the production version? Base it on the Focus platform (there is a transkit to make it RWD) Power it with a ZTEC 4cyl , maybe turbo it for a "Rallye" version.

If Ford brings the Pinto back I'll buy 2 because if I buy 1 it will get taken by the wife she's already after my 78. But that is an excellent concept. I however would suggest either the 4 cyl found in the ZX2 or the 3.0L V6 with the 5spd trans powering the REAR wheels ;D

Like I said, ther is a kit by Kugek Komponents I think to convert the focus to rear wheel drive. The kit puts a 302 in the Focus. so putting a turbo 4 or a V6 would be no trouble at all. I'm thinking of this for an upcoming reskin of the Focus chassis. The reskin should be due in a year or two
