I love the way the 2.3 looks, but it seems most of the pics I've seen show it all cluttered with fuel injection garbage, or dirty/risty crappy. Anyone have some good pics of a carb'd 2.3 that looks nice and clean?
Preferably in a pinto, but if its in a stang/ranger/whatever that is better than nothing. Thanks!
Here's what my engine looked like back when it was clean. Sorry the picture sucks. I rerouted the wiring through the fender wells, removed the smog pump, added a mustang header, ford motorsports valve cover, weber carb and k&n filter. Definitely has more room in the engine compartment than it did stock!
That is the exact look I'm going for! Any more pics of it? By "clean" I was mostly looking for no messy wiring etc. No rust/dirt is nice too, but I wouldn't mind some pics of a nicely organized engine bay like yours, even with a little grime etc.

I was also wondering what wires you routed into the fender wells. Ever consider relocating your battery to the trunk?
I'll send some pics of my 2.3 in my crusin wagons motor.I'll have to send them to your email, the photos are way to big to post here.Doc.
Cool thanks! I'll be waiting, and I'll tell you when I get them.
Here is one from my 79 wagon, all stock ;D
That right there, is a thing of beauty.
Yup, nice clean stock engine bay Tigger!
At the moment, my motor is the same as shown above, just neglected. I'm sorry to say that the car has been sitting for about 10 years. The shiny police would not be happy. I'll try to get a current pic in the next few days.
Yes, I'm planning on moving the battery to the back, along with a mess of other mods. The '86 turbo t-bird motor is tore down and waiting to get sent out for a little machine work. The projects of summer have pushed the restore down the list... one of which is to build an extension to my garage so I have more room to work on the wagon ;)
A few parts I've accumulated so far -
The aformentioned '86 turbo motor
'88 t-bird wiring harness and ecu
large vam and other misc bits
borg warner t-5 from a '91 mustang 2.3
esslinger 2.5 stroker crank, used but in excellent shape
ranger roller cam and followers
repop door gaskets and roll-up window belt liners
The list isn't near complete, but it's a start.
As far as the wiring, I rerouted the cluster that houses the alternator wiring, coil, and headlight wiring through the drivers side wheel well. If you look at Tigger's stock picture, its the big cluster that goes from the firewall, under the coil to the front. Holes and rubber grommets were used to bring the coil, regulator, and alternator wires back into the engine bay through the fender well. I had drove it for about 10 years that way without any problems. Actually, it had been sitting over a t a friends house, hadn't been fired up for about 5 years. A battery, fuel pump, some new fuel line and fresh gas was all it took to get it running. Drove it about 20 miles to my place and right after I parked it, the fuel filter clogged solid with rust! I'll have to drop the tank and coat the inside. No biggy since I was going to drop the tank to do some mods anyway.
Man Tigger that is sweeeeeeet.
Thanks guys, it is amazing what a couple cans of Gunk and some Pledge do to an engine compartment ;D
joecool85,
Mine is a 1974 2.0 litre, unrestored original. Here is what they looked like without modifications.
Pierre, that engine looks great. The reason I wanted 2.3 shots is just because that's the motor I'm most interested in. Something to note is that the 2.0 looks like it takes the same radiator, battery placement, everything except the motor itself is identical from what I can gather.
