Good afternoon,
I have an opportunity to buy a 71 or a 72 pinto and I am trying to find out which motors are which, I would like to find a cosworth in it but I am not sure how to tell. It seems like 3 different motors can be found in them, 2.0, 2.3 and 2.4.
I would appreciate any help you can give
thanks
Ok, here we go. The 71-71 pintos only came with a 1600 cc or a 2000 cc motor. You will not find a cosworth in either year unless someone transplanted one in it. The 2.3 motor started in 1974 and you will not find one in a 71 or 72 unless it was transplanted. I dont know what a 2.4 is but its not a ford spec. motor. So, your choice is a 71-72 with either a 1600 or a 2000 OR Find a cosworth or 2.3 motor and transplant one in a 71-72 car. You can find cosworth engines mainly in England and 2.3 motors in junk yards etc.
We agree we turbo man dude..WE started with a 71 with a 1600 in it and transplanted a 2300 in to it. Motor mounts were only big task but it was cool. Now we are transplanting 2.8 V6 in to it......I'm sure we are done and not go to a V8!!!!! any way lets us know if ya need help on bumbing up to a 2300...we know what to expect. chrisand don
1600 engines have no pwer stock, and limited mod parts available.
2.0 is the "Chevy" of Pinto engines, Almost no matter what you do, you make more HP. The 2.3 doesn't respond with the same money that a 2.0 does. It takes a little more to do the same increase.
