OK I just thought I would through this out...my 76 wagon is a C3 with a 2.3L.... this thing starts with a little flick if the key, revs very crisply... but when you throw it in gear is has no Ba!!z...
Out of all the Pintos I have owned I never had a Auto combo that was so gut less. This thing shifts well , just takes too much motor to make it move. Any sujjestions before I go mess with it.

Take a look at the distributor and make sure it is advancing correctly per rpm. Also make sure you are getting the correct amount of vacuum at the distributor. Make sure the rubber house to the distributor is not leaking.

What rear gears does it have??? May have a high ratio in it.
272 it looks like....humm might need a 3:55
