Is there any kind of overdrive transmission that has a 2.3 bellhousing bolt pattern that will fit in my pinto and be built to take the power of a 2.3 Turbo? The pinto im looking at buying has an auto in it, i dont want to convert to a manual transmission and even i like an automatic sometimes. This way i will have one auto pinto and one manual pinto.
I think the T-Bird Turbo Coupe had a A4LD.
90s fox body mustang has the A4LD but I wouldn't put one in my ex wife's car let alone my Pinto
Changed way to many of them
Just my opinion.
Yeah i knew about the A4LD but i havnt heard anything good about them so i was hoping there was another option. I wonder if the A4LD could be built to take the power of a modified 2.3 turbo. the fact that the pinto is alot lighter would help some.
I did some searching a while back and that is the only OD a/t to DIRECT BOLT to the 2.3 that I could find.
I have seen info on building up a A4LD. Just remember what the "LD" part stands for, and it is basicly a C3 with an OD gear (the AOD is a C4 with OD, but a bell is the issue).
Yes, they did put those in Turbo Coupes, and I agree, the Pinto is soooo much lighter it SHOULD not be a problem

There are a couple different a4ld's as well. I cant remember which years had them or what the no#'s were but they made an a4ld that the pump wasnt a one piece. The shaft can be pressed out of the pump and the pump could then be remachined. The castings and machine work in those particular tranny's seemed to be of a higher quality than the ones with a non removable pump shaft and they seemed to wear better and more evenly. Plus the forward and reverse drums could be remachined to accept an extra clutch disk.
This could be why 1 or 2 people swear by them and the next 5000 people hate them.
There is a place in Harrisburg PA that does transmission recycling and could maybe help you get one of these, But they are expensive parts, if i remember correctly just the pump from a removable shaft model was over 300 bucks. Anyway if you are interested in talking to them, PM me about it and we'll talk.
