I just spent the last 4 weekends getting the Rallye back on the road.4 weeks ago the clutch went out of the car.A friend had a t-5 setting in the garrage. After talking him out of it,i drooped the t-9 out of the car and installed the t-5.Every thing went smooth until i got to the drive shaft. It was two long for the t-5.The following weekend my buddy gave me a shaft from a xr4ti,it was wayyy two long.Got mad and went home. Then last weekend i got a shaft that works perfect. So Friday morning was going to drive the car to work, started it up and nothing but white smoke out of the tail pipe.Blew a head gasket.Saturday i removed the head, put it on my work bench. The cam shaft was wiped. So i put in the rollercam that i had.So wile i had the head off i decided to paint some of the engine parts. Now the engine compartment looks good ,but i now have a major water leak on the turbo. Now the car is fixed and in just 4 weekends.I will post pictures later in the week.
Sorry if some of my "luck" rubbed off on you when we met.
Bill
Sorry Bill your luck did not rub off.Thats the way it is for me all the timeHere is a pic ture of the engine bay.
Think positive, now you have a t-5, roller cammed 2.3 with a new headgasket & running the turbo without water might not hurt a thing in a lightweight Pinto if you use a high quality oil.
You can run the turbo without water at all. But you will beed to run a turbo timer in place of it. There are quite a few turbos which show a longer life without the water. The Toyota CT-26 and CT-20 leap to mind but there needs to be a turbo timer added. Although on the garrett turbo the water passage through the turbo is a much better design and the water cooling works better on this turbo than a turbo timer. Although using both together is the best way to go.
